Since many well developed manga need a lot of time to fully develop the characters and the story, which animes can sometimes have a hard time achieving without getting too long. I was wondering if any of you who is an avid reader of manga is also a fan of Visual Novels (VNs) 🙂 ?

Also, I apologize if this question has already been asked, or if its basically a no-brainer >.<. I myself have been reading manga for 8+ years but only recently became exposed to the VN scene, and I was curious about how much overlap there is between the communities of the two mediums.

I prefer VNs over manga, just because generally the longer a manga runs, the worse it gets. A VN has just as much (if not more) entertainment value, without having to watch characters I like turn into just a way to make money.

Other than that I wouldn't say there's a big overlap, from what I've seen there aren't many fans of VNs to begin with...

I've loved visual novels for as long as I can remember, but I only got into manga in high school. While I obviously love manga, I'd much rather play a visual novel. The stories tend to feel more... complete? Plus, getting to shape the story is a definite bonus.

I've noticed that most visual novel fans aren't very vocal about enjoying visual novels the way manga fans are about manga, so maybe that's why I haven't noticed a huge vn-loving manga community. I think visual novels are more popular among the anime community, mostly because of the amount of anime adaptations that are made. Otherwise, it can be pretty hard to find info on visual novels in general because they're so niche.

I believe the reason is that the majority of VNs are nukiges... 🤢

I don´t have an overall positive view on the VN scene but ones that mix gameplay in, as Ace Attorney, the 999 series or Snatcher / Policenauts have managed to please me. Consider these the cream of the crop.

Edit: I played and disliked Saya no Uta. I also don´t care for Urobutcher as a writer, but he constantly gets to work with very good directors.

there's a time and place for everything, if you don't go to places where people discuss something of course you won't notice it being brought up. personally i never see any vocal fans of manga but i don't go out of my way to find them

i enjoy VNs but it helps if you understand japanese since most will never be translated, even the popular ones

Yes. ImoPara2 comes out soon. Feels good, man.

Putting sexual based ones aside, I really enjoy VNs. Probably more than manga, actually. A lot of them have choices, which are nice, since manga definitely don't. Majikoi, Bunny Black, the Grisaia series, G-Senjou, Kamidori, YMK and of course the Higurashi series are all up there for some of my favorites. A few are even up there for my favorites of any entertainment medium.

I have to be in a specific mood to play through a VN, though. What usually ends up happening is that I go a few years without, then I get the itch and binge five or six at a time. Fun.

Ever since I read Katawa Shoujo a few years ago, I've come to love VNs. I've seen a few erotic VNs but I mostly enjoy reading romantic ones. I think I discovered VNs first before Manga.

So far I've seen the Grisaia series, G-Senjou no Maou, Chronoclock, Period, Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate, Nekopara, Corona Blossom, the Sono Hanabira series, Hoshizora no Memoria, Noble Works, Comyu, Dracu-Riot, Muv-Luv, Eden, If My Heart Had Wings, Princess Evangile, Quartett, Sharin no Kuni and Steins; Gate. 😀

I've been playing visual novels for several years now. In my personal opinion, visual novels are the way to go to find the better part of the story that manga and anime lacks. Case in point the fruit of grisaia. I definitely suggest that if you want to play visual novels. Others that I would recommend are nekopara, princess evangile, and steins gate. I haven't played dangan ropa but I heard that it's pretty good as well. I would also recommend all of the hyperdimensional neptunia series as well, which I think can be considered visual novels. By the way most of these games I play are listed on steam cause I want the achievments and all that stuff but you can get them for free if you look. If you are willing to pay for the visual novels, then I would recommend buying them from steam cause of the sales

Thank you all for your very insightful replies! I never expected to get so many opinions or recommendations >///<. I've carefully added all of your recommendations to my VN Wishlist hehe.

Before I begin, I guess I should also mention that I haven't played any nukiges either, and of the two I've tried, one was a BL (I never finished the true ending :'< ), and the other I'm currently playing at the rate of molasses climbing uphill in winter with crutches is Code Realize 😛 .

I've definitely heard of Steins Gate being very good, as well as the 999 and Ace Attorney series. I actually think the next Zero Escape is coming for the vita so I want to get it for my birthday in 2 months!

I have Divi-Dead as one of the next games that I will be playing, though I do have several other ones that I need to get to as well.
