Hey, I was just curious as to know if anyone here is planning on taking the JLPT this year. I'll be taking level 2 this year, and I got a friend and coworker of mine to take level 4. We will be taking it at the Chicago location (DePaul), and I was just wondering if anyone else would be?

I really would like someone to study with, at the very least (since the difference between lvl 2 and 4 is starting to be a bit different). And, also, I always see all these people up at the JLPT, but I never really know anything about them. I made a friend when I took level 4, but when I took level 3 last year, I got dragged around by my boss (since she's a proctor for the test) and one of my teachers in the past...so, I really didn't have a chance to talk to anyone...

If you're taking it, why are you taking it? I mean, I started out with level 4 for no real reason, but then I realized I did great, and wanted to challenge myself further. And, now that I got a scholarship offer to a graduate school in Japan, I figure the least I can do is push myself all the way (maybe I can get into Toshogakugan one day, lmao!). It's always interesting to hear these kinds of things.

I'm taking level 3 at the San Francisco site this year. Grammatically I'm told I can handle at least 2, but I'm lazy so my kanji ability sticks me at 3.

I'm taking it because I'm moving to Tokyo in January, and having some certification should theoretically help me when I'm applying for internships/part time jobs once my visa allows me to. I'll need level 1 eventually as well, so the practice is always helpful.

NightSwan also said that she wanted to peg me, once, but I'm not sure whether to take that as a compliment or a threat...

No. Maybe I'll take some day in the future, but I'm not nearly as fluent in Japanese as I could be.

Its like... my fourth most important language, so I am not as confident.
