I'm going to post a quick suggestion before I fall asleep on my iPod and forget this tomorrow.

How about locking inactive threads after a specific amount of time? Like a month maybe?

I mean double threads are sometimes made cause the other thread has been inactive for a while and even bumping it won't really get others... Well yea.

I'm too tired to explain.

You get what I mean tho n.n

Disagreed, on the fact that, some threads are still relevant.

But come on... That's not ALL the threads. If one's inactive it's dead thus should be locked. Ever want to resume it? Go make a new topic.

I doubt all important/whatever threads will be inactive.

And now the bed is calling me.

a month is way too short

though i can understand for something maybe over 6 months(i think older threads get deleted anyway)

As a moderator on FUNimation's forum as well as being an admin on the Ayeka Fan Club forum, I disagree with this completely. I have neither the time nor the inclination to go through locking threads because no one has posted to them for a month. That's just pointless work.

Now, if someone bumps an old thread just to say something pointless like, "I agree," then that is a senseless bump. But lets say there's a Johnny come lately to a manga and they see there was a discussion thread about said manga. They feel they have something to contribute to the thread, even if it is old, and so they make it. I've no problem with that.

What does bother me as a moderator is how people refuse to read what others have written and thus multiple duplicate topics appear. While I don't belittle these people or anything, I do close duplicate threads, pointing the topic-starter to the original thread. I'm amazed though at how often the topic-starter won't bother to even participate in the original thread even when it is pointed out to them. Maybe they are embarrassed or something, but there you go.

No.

Viable reasons already stated by others.

Also, instead of making new threads, we encourage users to find a thread that already exists about what they want to discuss. We do this because often the thread does exist, they're just too lazy to go look for it.

Many times this leads to two threads, one which gets locked, often the new one.

Locking old threads would make this a more common occurence, which is what we do not want.
