Chapter 78

Gah.. Need. More. Now.. Probably the biggest cliffhanger chapter. Though I doubt they will actually quit jump, it makes for a very good ending of a chapter 🙂 Not to mention I'm not really sure how they could still compete with Eiji if they did quit. That seems to be a pretty important part of the story so it won't go anywhere. The director doesn't seem like the type to back down so maybe they just have to ride Tanto out till it dies...

Takagi and Mashiro wouldn't want to leave Jump. Working for Jump was one of the first things they decided when they started writing manga. Fukuda, Aoki, and Eiji won't want Ashirogi Mutou to leave for another publisher.
The editors at Jump will not allow them to quit Tanto. The head editor especially seems determined to have them continue with the gag manga or else leave Jump.
So, Eiji will have to use his trump card. When he first started writing for Jump, it was under the condition that he had the power to end any manga he didn't like. I'm sure that for his rival, he would be willing to use it. Honestly though, I hope that he could save it for something else so that later down the road it'll lead to more interesting situations/conflict.

They probably won't leave Jump. I mean, Bakuman itself is published in Jump so it'd be kind of ridiculous and put off a bad impression.
It'd probably either be Eiji cancels it, the editors let them quit after all and say they were just testing them to see if they'd really leave Jump, or they keep going with Tanto and purposely run it into the ground by making it as royally horrible as possible until it gets canceled.
That might be interesting, but then the editors would already know what they were up to and failing on purpose seems kind of...
Every possibility I can think up seems as unlikely as the last, so I can't wait to find out what really happens.

lmao, you got me thinking pokeslob, imagine a "Homeless" arc? Which, thinking about it, wouldn't happen from a logical pov. Takagi and Mashiro both have places to crash (magical free apartments! 😀 ) ...Gah, there are too many failsafes for these up-and-coming mangaka.
But, anyway. Great chapter, finally some tension. Mashiro showing some balls. I'm just a little dissapointed they didn't hint at Takagi and Miho getting intimate, other than maybe their traditional wear. I wouldn't want anything crass, of course, just something like in the later half of Death Note where Light has that glass of wine and Misa is all over him 🙂
Ashirogi and Miura need to get together and see where they are and where they want to be. Clearly lay down the goals. Miura obviously wants to "succeed," and so does Ashirogi, but Ashirogi seems to want to move beyond generic success/popularity (finally!). Maybe they should share a few beers with him. They don't have enough chemistry. Speaking of which, one of my favorite parts of this manga is the relationship between the Hiramaru and his editor (the absurdity of the necklace idea was hilarious).
I really liked how Mashiro dared to say that last line. To be so determined that he'll consider any and all options, in a gamble to get to where they want to be.
I have a feeling the chief was testing their determination. If not, I'm totally okay with Ashirogi leaving Jump since it is most logical to start over with something you're skilled at than to stick with something where there is no future.
ikuyoK, of course Ashirogi can still compete with Eiji if they draw for another magazine. Popularity and sales aren't just restricted to internal competition.
and VinMan, you mean Takagi and Kaya. It's not nice to get intimate with your best friend's gf. 🤣
