This week's poll was suggested by jacob66. Some people value a single human life at $10 million USD. What are your thoughts on that?

You can submit poll ideas here
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: Preferred way of getting isekai-ed
Choices:
Truck-kun - votes: 554 (17.8%)
Train-kun - votes: 40 (1.3%)
Being (accidentally) murdered - votes: 117 (3.8%)
Walking through a random portal or door - votes: 498 (16%)
Explosives - votes: 54 (1.7%)
Summoned - votes: 392 (12.6%)
Reading a book - votes: 255 (8.2%)
Death via over-working - votes: 108 (3.5%)
Sleeping and waking up - votes: 714 (22.9%)
Stuck in a video game - votes: 236 (7.6%)
Other - votes: 145 (4.7%)
There were 3113 total votes.
The poll ended: September 24th, 2022 9:16am PDT

Sleeping and waking up is kinda boring in a story, but I guess it's a less painful way to go

The average life expectancy is 72.6 years worldwide. So 137.741 USD a year. Sounds too high?

Human life is priceless, so any number is too low

I wish my life cost 10m. O__O but it's probs closer to 1k rn lol
I chose too low tho cause a person's contribution in life can't be measured by monetary values

Fundamentally I think any opinion an economist has on the monetary value of human life isn't worth putting any extra thought into (there's that joke about the drowning person and the economist that asks whether getting their net worth was worth it in return for saving them, but I don't remember the source or the joke well enough to retell it. But I do remember the business people I was with completely not getting the dark humor in it and unironically agreeing with the economist)

But if they were trying to be poetic, they could have gone for a bigger number

Fuck I forgot that parts of the world use. Instead of ,. Mb

But even if we pretend that people's worth has monetary value, $137k would be too low. Pretty sure in some parts of the world, it costs countries that much in infrastructure, education, and generally just taking care of their own citizens

WW figures are impossible to come by so let´s go with the home of the Free & Brave Tm. The average US citizen is 90.460$ in debut: https://www.cnbc.com/select/average-american-debt-by-age/

2,5 years of Covid and the current energy crisis will push the number higher. My German state government (mostly) cut off the heating in my library to save money and winter is still 3 months away. Things will get worse year by year from now. They just will so the average debt will rise. The average value of the 1% will also rise. Covid was a goldmine for billionaires. I am 0€ in debt and have at least 30.000€ in personal savings. My life has some form of "value" ATM but you will never ever convince me that an economist will assign value to your life if you are in debt. Unless you are a prisoner or something. Ava DuVernay is hit & miss but 13th (2016) is gold.
Cyberpunk became real, the company store will own you soon enough.

You load 16 tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
St. Peter, don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store

seems fine
anyone with opportunities can make 10 mill over their lifetime
I don't think insurance companies payout that much; more like 10k for wageslaves on death
my father passed away when he was very young; and his comic book collection may surpass 10 mill and he accumulated that before he was 30
if you ask someone with money how much would they pay to have 'insert family member' back in their life
maybe 10 mill is not a difficult decision to make that happen for them.

I have a low opinion of humanity as a whole. With that said, anyone who thinks a price can be put on a human life is insane.

That's what Ford did with the Pinto, not putting an $8 valve on each gas tank that would have saved lives because they determined it was cheaper to settle a few lawsuits than put one on every car. Glad they went to jail.

Now, if we're talking as a minimum compensation per person killed, that's different. But speaking in terms of putting a price on someone before something bad has happened is encouragement to marginalize people.

The Original Artisan priced a single human being as being worth more than the entire world (Matthew 16:26) and worth more than His own life (John 10:17-18 & Luke 15:1-7)

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
This far into the New World Order it's pretty obvious He was God because everything He said would happen is happening. Even down to a global trade/currency system setup (Revelation 13:7, 13:16-18) and easy video streaming in every country (Revelation 11:9.). They didn't even have the technology for this stuff when I was growing up.

Now offer each economist $10 million to commit suicide.

I wonder how many will accept it as a "fair price."

10 million is a bit much for human life, I'm thinking more in the 10-30 thousand range.
