Best Shounen

Felt the need to post in here as I have been a longtime manga fan but only recently devoted more of my reading time to it and in collecting tankobans.
Best:
Naruto (masterpiece of the Shonen genre--ninja's, technique, loads of interesting characters and actual death, betrayal and destiny..teams not normally touched on in shonen despite what the haters wish to say).
Death Note (another masterpiece.
How people claim the ending didn't work for them is as silly as not liking Naruto in my opinion..it had a great twist with the death of L and the second part was more fast paced in my opinion with a suiting end to Light).
Rurouni Kenshin (while I find Dragonball to be derivative and silly--RK is a masterpiece..it captured the right vibe with characters, action, death and themes that are more ripped off than most manga and the artwork by Watsuki is to die for--one of the best artists in manga).
Eyeshield 21 (while sports manga to me is subjective -- in essence if you're not a fan of the sport it takes a lot to like it..I find most of it too serious or too glib..POT to me is a joke...ugly artwork, ridiculous characters and the movements are soo over the top that it's lampoon of itself..but ES21 is different..1st of all the artwork is AMAZING--secondly, the characters all have heart..compared to the uber gods of PoT..ES21 crew consists of losers and you want to root for them--lastly the action is captured perfectly..football is an intimidating sport..and to see the pure action inherent in running. passing and so on..it's easy to gain great respect for the characters within the series).
Claymore (Berserk would be on this list but it's not shounen---Claymore is and is AWESOME-- perfect symmetry between horror, fatalism, action and gore..plus the conspiracy is getting really good).
Fullmetal Alchemist (I think FMA needs to be read in one sitting..the plot is sooo dense and soo complicated that it's easy to see why books like Naruto and even lesser ones like One PIece and Bleach walk all over it in popularity but the artwork and the sure inventiveness of the fully realized world within is amazing).
Kekkaishi (how in the world this isn't more popular is beyond me..this is a masterpiece...unlike naruto it really has some smaller and more precise character beats..it's story is small but it gets it right just as much as any of the bigger guys who are playing for the stakes of the world and such--also some awesome artwork..very great series)
Gin Tama (hilarious..plain and simple..if this doesn't put a smile on your face then what does).
One Piece (not a masterpiece like Naruto and gets waaaaaaayyy too much credit from people who would be giving it to Naruto if OP were more popular in US but that said..Oda IS a genius and does know how to tell an adenturous story, his artwork is amazing and his core characters are funny ---mainly Usopp but that said..the fact that there are no 'stakes' in One Piece will forever make it second rate to Naruto in US and abroad..people like to know the characters are evolving and OP seems focused on just telling a rollicking adventure story after the next..it's like a typical american comicbook like Superman or Fantastic Four...you know who the stars are, the situations sometimes knock your socks off but in the end you know that they'll figure out how to win and then it's status quo).
Some fun titles but not quite there are:
Kurohime (great artwork == story really gets there towards in but is it finished?
Muhyo and Roji -- interesting premise, fun artwork story going nowhere
Yakitate Japan -- repetitive but fun
Katekyo Hitman Reborn -- could be great but just seems to lack any depth or ambition by mangaka

I agree with Reborn.. It doesn't really capture my interest..

I think both GTO and Detective Conan from Ares' list are great...
I don't have any that I would say is the best shounen of all time, but I think Hikaru no Go is up there. Even though the ending wasn't very good, it's impressive how the mangaka could make go seem so interesting.
Yeah i agree the ending was bit..rushed?

Death note and black cat beats all!
I haven't read too many Mangas because I can hardly find the time to. But from what I've seen now.
Rurouni Kenshin and Trigun (although i've only watched the anime, they are still my faves by far)
Ongoing is definitly
#1 AIR GEAR! by a long shot
then it's
-Hunter x Hunter
-One Piece
-Bleach
-D. Gray Man
-Naruto
Looks like i need to check out GTO, and GUNNM...
Any other suggestions? 😕

Lets see.
ARES would have to be one of the best, DEATHNOTE, then CLAYMORE, and not to mention,
xxxHolic, and Historie.
OHOHOH, Hikaru No Go and Detective Conan are also some of the best.
Does the walker choose the path, or the path the walker?

It would probably be HunterXHunter, it has everything a good shounen manga needs with great plots, amazing characters and excellent writing skills by the author.
It would probably be the best one, if....the mangaka actually cared for his fans and didn't have a long hiatus after every 2 or 3 chapters.....the @#$%^

i know what you mean the author spends 8 volumes on boring unneeded and unwanted kiddy junk but it gets better with the battle for the vongola rings
