Question About Barragan

I was thinking about this when my friend and I were just talking about the Espada a few minutes ago.
If Barragan's Respira ability can decay someone's body to the point where all that's left is bone, then how come he was defeated by it when he's already nothing but bone? He shouldn't have any need for that barrier that protects him from his own power. And on the body parts of Soifon and Hachi that he disintegrated, the bone was left intact and wasn't rotting away like everything else.
And before someone says it, the only way we know that the Espada's body are different from the Shinigami's body is the fact that the Espada have no heart (Which already makes no sense when you wonder why and how a spirit can have organs in the first place).

His power is to age things, it makes sense cause flesh would decay faster than bone but bone decays eventually

But then wouldn't we see Soifon and Hachi's bones decay as well seeing how Barragan could decay things at an accelerated rate?
And wouldn't that mean that when Hachi sent his arm to Barragan, that Barragan wouldn't rot away instantly like he did?

That's so stupid. You know the bad guys always lose at the end. But if they go all out at the start and give the protagonist no time to get more powerfull or think of a counter attack, he will most definitely win.
The villains in movies and manga really should read the evil overlord list, they could learn alot from it.
But what I want to know is how the limbs of soi fon and hachi can decay in the first place. they're shinigami right? Aren't they supposed to be souls with no physical body? Since when do souls have flesh that can decay anyway?
Maybe I'm misinterpreting something, in which case please disregard.

But Barragan couldn't make the effects of Respira any weaker. The only way he could stop from going all out was to make it spread out more slowly, like when he was playing around with Omaeda.

No, you're right. At first, shinigami were only made out of reishi and plasma (The plasma explained why blood came out when they were cut). And now for some reason, they've gained organs, flesh, bones, ligaments as well. It actually makes the shinigami weaker, because if they were just spirits, then they wouldn't have to worry about torn ligaments, or a collapsed lung, or broken bones slowing them down. And since they absorb spirit particles in order to stay alive, then there's no need to have a stomach to digest food.
