I created this site to fill a void in the manga community. As a staff member of BU, a few admins and I decided it was time to take BU's release reporting skillset to the manga community... and everything else developed out of that. While there were good reporting websites, there wasn't any decent place to find information about manga... (like anidb for anime... though back in the day i used animenfo) and so my main objective with this site has been to marry release reporting with a comprehensive series section. It worked out somewhat ... and we're here today.

Its true this site is far superior to any other. I can't even begin to describe how appreciative I am that this site was created. The fact that we can be involved makes it that much more enjoyable. Thanks to all the hard work!

The other part of it is that MangaUpdates doesn't have as much competition as Baka-Updates. There are basically only 2 other manga sites like this one, MangaNews/MangaJouhou and DailyManga. I migrated from Manga Jouhou. XD This site is just waaaay more comprehensive, complete, and easy-to-use.

As for baka-updates, I haven't tried their forums yet, but that's because I rarely watch anime anyway. I like the layout of this forum better, though. XD It looks cleaner.
