What is your opinion on the upcoming Disney animated film that's coming out this holiday?

Based on the previews I watched so far, its clear that the Walt Disney studio is going back to basics (ie broadway-like musics, based on well-known fairy tales, etc.), very similar to certain Disney animated classics.

Also....

One of the voice actors, Keith David, will be voicing the main villain in this feature, and that's a plus as well. :)

Overall, the Princess and the Frog will no doubt revive interest in 2-D movies once again (and perhaps a start of a Silver Age for Disney).

I'm so excited they're doing more traditional animation. I'm sick of the CG/3D animated stuff. I hope they continue to do more like this. Anyways, I'll definitely be seeing this.

This.

I'm going to see it mostly because its not 3D, and I want to support hand-drawn stuff. Not to mention it looks amusing.

It looks like Disney has finally figured out that everything they've done themselves recently is pretty much made of suck, and although they make tons of money there's not a person in the world that would consider Hannah Montana or G-Force "a modern classic" like their earlier films. That means they aren't the kind of thing that can generate interest, merchandise, and money for years to come.

And then we come to the Princess franchise, which I would guess is the most profitable gimmick Disney has come up with yet. These girls weren't created to be grouped together and marketed to death in every way possible, but hell does it make money when they do. And now we have a film that's actually made to be "a Disney Princess movie". It might be good, but the overwhelming "to make money" aura of it is probably going to make me avoid it.

I like that they're working to make the Princess group more ethnically diverse. I cheered when they added Pocahontas and Mulan (although the latter seems to have been quietly extricated from the group; she doesn't appear on any recent merchandise). But I don't like that they took a random fairy tale and just decided on their own to make the princess black. It's not really to promote ethnic diversity or tolerance; it's to make money. There's no historical or geographical accuracy to having the Princess in The Frog Prince be black, wealthy, comfortable, and completely free from any sort of racism in 1930s New Orleans. Mulan is Chinese because Ha Mulan is a Chinese folk tale. Pocahontas is Native American because she's (loosely) based on the legend of Pocahontas rescuing John Smith from being ceremonially killed by the chief. I would have loved if they had made an African folk tale into a Princess movie. I would have applauded, advocated, and seen it. But that's not going to happen, as it's not going to make the cash.

Maybe I'll buy the doll instead.

Well, it's good that Disney is going back to their old-school ways with their movies. I won't go see it though because I was never interested in the princesses (For obvious reasons).

I guess the only thing I don't like about it is that it takes place in New Orleans and it involves voodoo. I get tired of having most forms of media having New Orleans in something and showing nothing but (or having it being involved with nothing but) voodoo, zombies, vampires, Mardi Gras, or usually showing either the French Quarter or the swamps and pretty much nowhere else.

I just saw it tonight.
I loved it! 😀
I'm all happy and giggly inside and out.
My friends had to tell me to stop bouncing up and down after the movie multiple times.

It's exactly as it suggests a classic Disney movie.
Disney has gone back to its roots and came out with a wonderful movie.
It has a slight "women power" aspect rather than the heroine waiting for the prince to save her.

It was weird the first couple of minutes since I was all used to the more modern Disney with "way out there" storylines (i.e. Up, Ratatouille, Coraline.) The more recent movies are still good but seeing Princess and Prince and fairytale romance just brings me back. <3

10 thumbs up!

I saw it opening week (I think) with two of my best friends (we were trying to see it before one of my friends left to visit her family in Nigeria). It was fun and cute and certainly reminded us of the Disney classics (we spent the next 20 minutes arguing over where "Disney classics" ended...before or after The Lion King) but, as my friends put it, "I'm walking out of the theater and couldn't even hum a bar or two of the music" so it's not quite as great as their true classics, at least to them. As for me, I'm not even sure I walked out of The Lion King humming Hakuna Matata so I'm thinking more "wait and see."
But I'm very very happy Disney is making an effort.
