Since deathbypenguins started this awesome thread about MBTI types, I figured... What about a thread for Enneagram types? 🙂

My primary type is and always has been type 5, the Thinker, but my complete type is 5w9 (Thinker & Peacemaker), which oddly isn't supposed to exist. A few years ago, my subtype (or "Wing" type) used to be 4, so I was a 5w4, but apparently I've changed and am now a 5w9. o_0; Go figure! I guess that's what growing up and changing is all about.

A few questions I have for those who have done Enneagram tests before...

Have your types ever changed over time?

Do you pefer MBTI to Enneagram or vice versa, and why?

How effective do you think your Enneagram is in describing you?

I got type 5:

5 feels ambivalent about the world consequently their mind is usually their best friend. Gifted analysis and making sense of things, perception, and invention come naturally. Their inner world can become a hideaway from the real world.

Your main type is which ever behavior you utilize most and/or prefer. Your variant reflects your scoring profile on all nine types: so = social variant (compliant, friendly), sx = sexual variant (assertive, intense), sp = self preservation variant (withdrawn, security seeking).

I'm apparently a 5, but scored nearly the same with both 8 and 1 (eight slightly higher, but again, we're talking all of them in about the same 5 percent). I suppose that's supposed to be unlikely and/or impossible, I must confess, I wrote off the accuracy of enneagrams a long time ago.

I find MBTI more accurate, generally, as I feel it comprises a wider variety of factors. I sort of see enneagrams as an attempt at a more scientific variation of astrology, and frankly I don't see a lot of accuracy in the way that the typology is applied. MBTI just strikes me as more scientific.

That said, I think you'll see a majority of thinkers and skeptics here, regardless of how easily manipulated the test is- given that this is a site not only composed of manga readers, but of manga readers likely to hang out on a manga site, it should be clear which demographics present themselves the strongest.

Took the tests years ago in HS and got the same result, though it was close to Perfectionist as well. But to have the same result- considering which type I am- can't be a good thing. xD

But yes, it is pretty accurate though I disagree with a few of it's points. Yes, I do care for others a lot, often placing their needs before mine (depending on situation) and more often then not I try to be sympathetic with them. But no, I do not have low self-esteem, I can say "no" just as much as I can help others, and I do not need others to assure me about their feelings for me. 😃

I agree with Crenshinibon that MBTI is more subtle and understanding of the whole variety of psychological aspects that can form a person. For example, the fact that I score pretty much equally as a 5 and a 9 on the Enneagram (a supposedly "impossible" combination) shows that Enneagrams do not fully encompass or explain all my personality traits. I prefer MBTI because my classification as an INTJ is more thoroughgoing.

THAT SAID, my primary Enneagram type, 5, really does explain my core insecurities really well, and the fact that "Detachment" is what I'm really about - protecting myself from the world through knowledge. That's... really a very accurate assessment of me.

So I do think that Enneagrams are quite useful, just not as useful (or thorough or scientific) as MBTI types.

Helpfulness shouldn't be so high, neither should anxiety although that's debatable. Calmness definitely needs to go down. Detachment is about right, a little high...GTFAFM.

Whoa, lookit how many 5s there are in the poll! Kinda like the MBTI post had more Is. That really does prove a point that manga-readers tend towards certain personality traits... Or maybe just that 5s are more likely to take these tests, what with the over-riding urge for knowlege. Lol.
