While looking for new, good reads on the top-rated page, I found myself constantly running into guy+guy mangas. In order to save time, I filtered out Shounen Ai/Yaoi from my search results. But for some reason, now the ratings were dropping from 9s to 8s insanely fast. When I looked at the bottom of the page, I noticed something rather shocking

What is this? When did the purpose of creating mangas turn into "drawing naked men giving it to each other"? What is with this obsession for guy-on-guy action?
And why is there such a pathetically small amount of Yuri? (only 16 pages)

Edit: Apparently search results differ when you EXCLUDE Shonen Ai/Yaoi and INCLUDE Shonen Ai/Yaoi. I have no Idea why it does this. Anyhow I edited my post in terms of including the search terms.

Include SA + Include Y= 232 pages
Exclude SA/Y = 420 pages (1/3 of all manga)

Well, if you don't like yaoi, it doesn't mean that other people feel the same way. If you haven't noticed yet, there's many BL fans here.
And what's the purpose of this post, are you suggesting to remove some yaoi mangas because there's too many of it, in YOUR opinion? Or is it just a rant?
There's an option of filtering unwanted genres in the releases page and search, if you hate yaoi this much I suggest that you use it and shut up, sorry for being rude.

It's like how 66% of the manga recorded in MU are romance. ;w;

I've read a few polls that showed that most anime and manga art students are female as well as polls showing that most of the overseas [idk about Japan] anime and manga fans are female.

That undoubtedly means a lot of BL manga. 😁 But for anime it's a different story. There're more GL and a lot of the people working in the anime industry are male. But recently there're more BL series so I can't say for sure if my speculations are right. 🤣

But like what Turbophoenix said, it doesn't really matter. As long as the fans get what they want it's good...

If you must know, only a few BL manga consist of more than 2 to 3 vols. A lot are like 1 to 2 vols max. Soo... a lot of BL mangaka have a ton of works listed under them.

And contrary to your opinion, quite a bit of BL is smut and nothing but sex. However, many do have a story too. And some of the stuff listed as yaoi isn't written for females but manga written for gay males. Also another correction: quite a few gay men also read BL manga so it's not all for straight females.

Also, in case you failed to notice, there's a ton of eromanga aka hentai too. Why can't people read what they want to?

There are hundreds of pages worth of het romances on the MU database, you know? Go read some of those and leave the BL series alone; straight hentai outnumbers gay porn by a LONG shot. The fact that you hate yaoi doesn't mean it'll cease to exist.

As for why there's less yuri...well, I dunno. Maybe it just doesn't get scanlated as much.

Hahahaha I agree. I honestly don't care. There's a big fan base for yaoi/shonen-ai. If you don't like it, don't read it. And why wouldn't there be tons of it? Unlike the shonen manga-ka (for example) that spend years on one manga, working it to 50, 60, and 70+ volumes, yaoi manga-ka make 1 - 3 volume series at a time. (I don't think I've seen a yaoi reach ten volumes - above that is rare.)

So there's an obvious reason why it is the way it is. 🙄

However, I DO agree that there isn't enough yuri in this world. 😔 C'mon! We need yuri published in english too. What, there isn't a big enough fanbase for it? Bull****.
