whats up with yaoi? i think its GAY
sorry everyone
*and see signature

Yuri is just as gay. 🤣 Being gay or not doesn't determine whether it is a good story.

You're damn right bout that!
😎

Indeed.
Some (many) silly people think it does.
i didnt say it was bad or anything. just gay. thats the truth right?
and for the record, im not a fan of yuri either

... Most of what's popular are horrid. And since they are popular, they get more screen time, per se. Most people that are only subjected to these horrid selections assume that all BL mangas are like that.

They are not. >:-(

Ya, I agree with that.
It's disappointing to see stuff that doesn't have that much substance get so much attention and then people just end up generalizing the whole genre. u_u
oh well, I guess that kinda happens with everything.
Including manga in general!
Darn stereotypes.

Actually, I am on one side with OP (overreacting a bit though). As it is the majority of active yaoi readers are steady mature people and don't pee their pants at every nude panel. I can see a lot of critics and average ratings, besides not every yaoi title is actually rated.

Well you dont see guys do that kinda thing for yuri manga and besides those types of fantasys can be disturbing to alot of guys

You don't have to read it if you find it disturbing. Nobody forces you. By the way, I think a lot of ecchi (depends on how it's done and how far it goes though) as well as the bad jokes you find in shounen and seinen manga are very humiliating to females and sexist. It can be disturbing to a lot of girls. But do you hear girls complain about that? I don't like it so I avoid it. Simple as that. I think those types are far worse than yaoi and yuri.

I completely agree there. I've seen too many different series/different anime that are so sexist to females, and I ignore them. Why do I like yaoi? Well, why do you like shoujo? Shounen? Seinen? It's all the same type of question with different answers like many of you have pointed out. Every person has different tastes, that's all! ^^ I just don't get why so many people have to think yaoi/yuri is gross or weird just because it's not heterosexual stuff. Two people of the same gender can have a normal romance just like a man and a woman and they can have sex too. Just because it's not the exact way a male and female do it, that doesn't make it any less of the term sex.

I guess it's best when you do a search, excluding the genres you don't like. Otherwise ratings can't tell you anything with different genres mixed.

speaking from the point of view of a yaoi fan, I guess a lot of people (mainly girls) like it because its a fresh change from shoujo. not to mention some of them are really hot 😉 although its kinda hard to find good ones nowadays.

Yaoi is good for the soul and body 🤣
Actually when I first read shounen-ai it was by mistake. I had this: wth? expression on my face but somehow it transformed me into a fujoshi. As **gwisoon ** said, it is change from shoujo and shonen. I like it because of all the hot guys (yes I know they are 2-D) but there's a lot to yaoi then the sex...ok maybe the smut but I like storylines not just smut and more smut.

I don't see anything strange about girls liking yaoi, but I do find the sheer volume of yaoi to be quite intimidating. You don't see very much yuri at all by comparison, though I think some of it is indoctrinated into the hentai section quietly.

Oh, I don't think it's in there "quietly". While yuri (or lesbian, which ever you prefer) is provided basically mainstream, you have yaoi (or gay or what have you) being provided only in specialty sections.

Someone may have brought that up already. I don't know. I'm pro yaoi, by the way.... As a matter of fact, do what you like.

As a gay guy, I feel like I've been insulted reading some of these posts, especially with how some people classify (homo)sexuality =|

Yaoi is what it is, and typically speaking there's very little western world equivalent, be it aimed at men or women. Some of Joe Phillips' work is about as close as you'll get afaik, stuff from Josman and Tom of Finland is basically cartoon/drawn pornography(not that there's anything wrong with it 😮 ) . You might say it's the same for something equivalent to yuri, but let's face it, we're living in a hetero male world (queue various 'omg gays are gross unless it's 2 girls' comments)

The fan world for hentai/yuri and yaoi is really different and you can tell so easily, most yaoi will have a bunch of comments but every hentai page I've seen so far hasn't had a single comment. I just wish there was more yaoi made for guys (not just bara), and that there were more series that lasted longer than 1 volume, it'd make the yaoi genre feel less....shallow for lack of a better term.

sorry if this just ended up being a rant post, was originally just browsing threads for a new title to read 🙁

I know that world is bigger... But nevertheless it seems strange. Guess if boys like to watch girls on girls action 🙂 , why not the same to be true for girls?

Doesn't seem strange to me it's pretty normal actually. Welcome to the manga community.

And welcome to the world what it have to be! The tollerance is most important!

@dustdog: You have many supportes here, believe me!

I have never understood why not liking something = bashing it. I don't like many things but I don't bash them. This is my comment of the "living in a het male world" and that is why gay/yaoi things are bashed. The prob is not where we live in but in the common acceptance. We could live in a het male world where the gay/yaoi stuffs not to be offended and to be respected, couldn't we? Also there always will be a group which to be a majority but this doesn't mean that it have to rule everyone's taste or to be sample what to be liked. Every person has their own taste. People can't like everything but they have to know that this doesn't mean to bash, to mock and to disrespect the things they don't like. I don't like classic music for example but I neither disrespect it nor I bash it.

Exactly! Yaoi is the most discriminated genre! That is why I'm happy it has so much votes! 😛

The fact that there is so many yaoi mangas rolling around everywhere might mean that the women in Japan are not satisfied with the service provided by their men 😛

Funny! 😀 😁
But I'm not agree. takes a serious note This is because Japan doesn't belong to any of the big religions. If it did yaoi would not even exsists shudders. On the contrary, if the west world didn't belong to any of the big religions the yaoi/yuri stuff would be as spreaded there as they are now in Japan. It's because the private life is something respected in Japan.

Bad taste is not determined around one single person’s interests, so just because someone doesn’t like yaoi does not make it a terrible thing. The same goes for me; just because I like it does not mean it is the right category for everyone. The fact that we can’t all agree on one subject just goes to show how individual we all are. The beauty of subjectivity is the freedom we have, so let’s not ruin that with judgment. We are not going to convince anyone to like homosexuality against their own will, so we hope the hetero community will do us the same courtesy.

I didn't mean "to like" but "to respect". I meant exactly that you don't have to like something that to respect it. We can't like everything, it is abnormal, but we could respect everything (which is supposed to exist from a logical point of view, of course). Should I be black, gay or Jewish that to respect these people? I'm not but I fight with every racist, homophobe and antisemith. I'm a het female but I respect yuri and I'd defend it as I do with yaoi.

I completely agree that it is fair to ask for respect. Well worded. I too am intolerant of discrimination of any sort, though I personally only wish to remove the hate behind it. If it is replaced by love than that would be through their own choices and should not be forced ...because then it would not be authentic, ya know? It is so much more powerful if the individual can figure that sort of thing out for their own (with or without a little push).

shrug Maybe I have low standards in changing others? To gain equality (and leaving it alone after that) is enough to appease me. If a person decided to support whatever cause afterwards, then that is a wonderful bonus.
