Okay, that's funny. Reminds me of how Winnie the Pooh was censored in Kingdom Hearts 3.

China Planning Ban On International Online Gaming is what is actually going on and the OP just posted a bunch of inflammatory and wrong bullshit in the title? Got it then 🙄. It´s the Russian Hackers that will now continue to plage PC gaming IF this goes through and this isn´t even confirmed. Could this happen? Sure. Does anyone know or are there proper sources for this... no.
KH3 also didn´t come out in China (there are many reasons for this outside of it being a console-only game/IP in a market where those were banned till recently) and Winnie The Pooh products exist in China.

The topic lastly derailed into bitching about Turkey with the 2nd response. It´s as if the participants don´t care about the topic itself or something...

PS: There is a Games sub-thread on MU and this is a gaming topic.

Edit: A primer on government surveillance/censorship in China if this site really must go there:

I lastly did a presentation/paper on the Great Firewall in university. Test the blocks here for example: http://www.chinafirewalltest.com/

The communist regime is said to have noticed an authority vacuum in online multiplayer games, which enables people to freely socialize without monitoring'. So, aside from how the Hong Kong activist was found saying the phrase, their main basis for banning social video games is the abscence of ways to monitor their interaction? China is just Black Mirror tbh omg.

Can you even imagine what would be if all China gamers would go out and start protest/revolution?

Another Tiananmen Square Massacre. That is, if their family doesn't send them to the reeducation camps, or they get captured by the execution buses for organ harvesting, first. Do you really think the CCP actually gives a shit about any of the "blow back" they may receive? Especially since all calls for investigations into the virus and it's origins are met with scorn, hatred, deplatforming, and being ostracized from society?

Conspiracy theory - what if Covid was made for them to stay home?

The virus itself? It's speculated that it may have been a biological agent designed for attacks against Hong Kong protestors and Taiwan, but there isn't any current evidence to back it up. As for keeping people at home, the CCP has used the Corona-chan lockdowns as justification for ringing out the remaining independent and democratic influences that remain in Hong Kong.

Why are people reviving this bs thread? China hasn't "banned ALL online games" and it takes just five minutes to look this up. Notice that anything like this is on random unknown sites, not respectable media.

Censorship in China is definitely a big deal but there's no need to make things up.

Engadget: China's revamped law bans online services that 'induce addiction' in kids
Quote from Engadget
China is implementing stricture measures in its bid to keep kids away from addictive digital content. Quote from Online encyclopedia
Taiwan News was founded June 6, 1949 as China News, offering news reports and editorials printed on a stencil press. At the time it was the only English-language daily newspaper in Taiwan. In 1960 the newspaper switched to block printing in a full-size page format.
...
The reputation and prestige of the print edition of Taiwan News has been instrumental in helping the Taiwan News Online achieve the distinction of being the most widely visited English-language portal for news about Taiwan, with an average of more than a million visits monthly. More than 80 percent of those visits come from overseas, with users from a total of 176 nations around the world. Taiwan News Online is also one of the most frequently searched-for sites for English-language news on Taiwan.

Taiwan News works closely with Internet Securities (Kong Kong) Ltd. and Wisers Information Ltd. of Hong Kong to make news reports, stories and editorials from Taiwan News available to subscribers through the databases of the two services. At the same time, Taiwan News continues to seek cooperative agreements with other news sources around the globe.

There is no way China can ban all online games. The amount of backlash from agencies and companies will probably lead to anarchy

Did you even read what you sent me? Because it's very clear that it's not banning all online games. That article and the ones it links to mention:
- time/usage limits for minors
- parents being able to inform ISPs of cyberbullying content
- ban on certain types of content e.g. red blood
- stricter rules for addictive/gambling games like Mahjong and poker

Nowhere does it say that China has banned all online games. The news I've found from the time that first linked article was posted (April) mention plans, not actual laws implementing this. You'd think that if China actually banned all online games, major business, tech and gaming outlets would cover this due to the impact on the gaming industry, just like restrictions on other tech/gaming things have been covered before.

This is definitely restrictive but doesn't match the claims being made here.

That's because the claim was made by a completely different user.

This topic was started by Trejon, he is the one who named it and was talking about sweeping bans. But the user you replied to, Transdude1996, have not made any claims like that. As far as I can see, he's just providing information that could help to understand the situation better.

I understand how forums work. The user I was replying to doesn't seem to deny any of the claims being made and seemed to be disagreeing with my original post (where I first pointed out that this is inaccurate). Maybe I misunderstood, but that's how it really comes across.

So, even the users are banned? maybe they're trying to get rid online and make profit on
gambling instead since china can't make profit on a lot of online games. They're just covering it up like what they did with the corona virus, was the story even true? Then again, this forum was never actually meant to ask that kind of question, huh?

😁

It's probably also to ban selling loot boxes to kids in am addictive way which is generally unethical. And getcha games for kids that give a dopamine hit when you gamble.

It'll also eventually misused to ban foreign games they don't agree with for censorship purposes, and then there will be pressure to self-censor to avoid upsetting Chinese sensibilities as happened in Hollywood. But the effect of the law could be mostly good overall so we'll have to wait and see.
