Decline of Shojo Beat

I don't know if anyone else picks up Previews catalogue, but it showcased what's been solicited for release for about 2-3 months in advance.
And I'm flipping through August's previews (releases for October) and see that Shojo Beat has a list of only 6 mangas set for release. Usually they have upwards of 12. And I went back and checked July's previews and it only had about 8 set for release.
So I wonder, with all the dedication they are putting into Shonen Sunday and their other ventures, are they maybe giving up on Shojo Beat?

They've said on the site that they still intend to release tanks under the Shojo Beat title, even though they've discontinued the magazine. I'll be very mad with them if they discontinue shoujo entirely, but they may be cutting back for a while due to the economy. They haven't said anything of that nature that I've seen, though.
If you've ever thought or said "Nice Guys finish last" and really meant it, then you should probably read this LJ post by DivaLion. It's incredibly insightful whether you're male or female.

Ah, glad this got cleared up. While Shojo Beat is still putting out tanks, they certainly are taking the focus off their shojo volumes and putting a lot of emphasis on their new Shonen Sunday and Ikki lines, both geared towards boys and men. There is nothing similar coming out for girls and women. Ikki titles are mostly seinan, a similar effort could be made for josei, even on a smaller scale. Thoughts?

I totally agree. The Josei market is there, it just needs proper introduction and a good selection to start; but I can guarantee it's a booming market. Need evidence? Look at the push the Josei reading market caused to SAVE Suppli from discontinuation. A bumper edition collecting Vol 4-5 came out!
I love reading Josei but can count on one hand the published titles I actually enjoy, we need more of a selection! More of an interest shown or something. Don't know what I can do tho :/
Viz Media is a giant in the manga world as we all know, but even giants need to take precaution in such an uncertain economic market. Downsizing their selection of releases is one step.
I tell everyone that reads manga to buy it. It's the only way the selection and supply you crave will get fulfilled.
