So basically, you'll be bitchin' either way. If the majority votes, it's the 'tyranny of the majority' and if the admins decide, it's 'not democratic enough'. The fact that you're not looking for solutions and going as far as accusing someone's integrity is evidence enough that you're just a pathet ...

There is no reason for me to be bitching. If it's left up to the admins, they ought to know what the right decision is, since they themselves set the defintions on this page. These definitions are the base of my argument.
If the admins now are allowing this site here, they are contradicting there own managment.

And the solution is simple: Delete it.
It obviously does not match the philosophy of this page, so why keep it!?

I think most people would be satisfied with just this, myself included.

Nothing wrong with bitching. Scanlators do it when their readers decide to not visit their site and instead go to mangafox and help them earning money on the releases... for FREE! Leechers do it when they think it's been long enough since they got the last chapter, even if it's only been 1 day. 4chan does it with everything and PROzess isn't close to them. MU does it when it's 1st April, forcing us to be banned if we play april's fool cuz in their eyes the common reader is damn stupid to know that it's 1st april. I do it cuz I need staff to release more titles and humans are the root to all evil. So nothing wrong with bitching.

It's stupid to have a poll or the dictatorship bribed by money (we've seen that before with an uploader to mangafox being the mod in MU). Why not follow the rules in MU? There's a reason they made rules and there's a reason why they removed the doujins stuff...and debating if shitty machine translated novels should be in scanlated manga section. Why they debate that, I dunno. I guess it must be something like this. FOR THE DRAMA.

If you call MangaLator to be a scanlation site then (as someone pointed out about /a/) so will a raw attached with a translation txt file too. After all, we got the raw and we know what they are saying in each bubble. Sure MangaLator made a fancy viewer where they show the translation above the page but it's not scanlated in any way. What's gonna be next? Rewrites are scanlations? O.o

Actually, everything's wrong with bitching. Everyone hates naggers. Even naggers hate naggers.

Why do you care if mangafox hosts your releases? I thought you do it for the readers? If mangafox hosts it, more people will read your release and the manga you scanlate becomes more popular too.

We care because that's what differentiates human beings from simpler animals. People will try to enforce fair play even if it is disadvantageous to them (depending on the price, of course). There are various sociological experiments that demonstrate this phenomenon.

And naturally, if you do it for the readers, it doesn't in any way imply that you do it for mangafox and the like. Not that it matters to you, since you do it for the money (although mangafox makes a lot more off your work than you do).

So when you bitch that you need money to scanlate to cover your house bill, it means that everything's wrong with your bitching too? O.o

I care because I do it for free so others can enjoy our scanlations for free without anyone earning money on it, e.g. you and mangafox. We share the love we have for the manga titles and the authors. Oh and then we fangirl it like crazy with others.

So when trash try to earn money on our free stuff, we care. Just like we cared when subs were being sold on Ebay by people from Hong Kong. (...I'm beginning to see a pattern here.) We are humans, we should be better than trying to earn money on other people's stuff by using lame excuses and illegal actions. What is this? Dog eats dog world?

So you just do it out of principle? Don't you think that's a waste of time?

I scanlate to give the manga I translate the popularity they deserve. I couldn't care less whether mangafox and other aggregator sites make money off my work, as long as they promote the manga I like and bring them to readers that wouldn't have found those manga if it wasn't for their websites.

That you guys get pissed off at this just shows that you care more for your overblown egos than for the mangas you translate or their fans.

This. I agree with this, 100%.

I keep track of releases via my reading list and the admission of MangaLator's... "releases" ... has made it harder to track some of the series that are on MangaLator. 🙁

Agreed! It's going to be very frustrating to have to track down which series are legitimately scanlated as opposed to just providing a script.

It's not a principle, but a normal ingrained reaction of a social animal that is the human being, who doesn't like when some people take advantage of others. It's like saying that touching something extremely hot and immediately jerking your hand away is done "out of principle" and not because your instincts scream at you to do so.

Those who profess they don't care either:
a) Personally gain from the antisocial situation
or
b) Are sociopaths
or
c) Are being disingenuous in order to escape from the unpleasant situation in which they are powerless to change anything

"I scanlate to give the manga I translate the popularity they deserve." -- after you spent a few posts convincing everyone that it is proper and just to scanlate for money, I'm going to take this claim with a grain of salt. A big grain. A bagful of salt even.

As a side note, it is certainly a false claim that online aggregators create new manga readers. Rather, they redistribute existing readership from scanlator sites to themselves. Thus, they have zero contribution toward popularity of any manga. But that would be a separate discussion -- you may start a new topic if you are interested, god knows this topic is already all over the place.

What do you lose from them hosting your scans? Assuming you don't rely on ads (which I'm sure YOU wouldn't do LOL), the only issue is that they "steal" your scans without permission. But as I explained before, these aggregation sites help promoting the manga you translate. And since you do this for free, there's no actual economic damage done either. If you think in pragmatic terms, mangafox and associated do you more good than harm.

"What do you lose from them hosting your scans?" -- My faith in humanity.
"But as I explained before, these aggregation sites help promoting the manga you translate." -- a more correct statement would be "But as I claimed without any evidence whatsoever as well as little regard for logic before..."
"Whatever suits you, M'Lord" -- whatever doesn't suit my Lordship, but doubting your assertions of your own altruism does.
"[*] citation needed" -- cmertb. "MangaLator.ch - Everything You Should Know", Post #668571. Baka-Updates Manga. Web. 08 July 2015 I'm sorry, but which part of "you may start a new topic if you are interested" didn't you understand?

Nevertheless, let us conduct a simple (and very famous) thought experiment. Suppose T1 here offers us 1000 USD. I will decide on how we split the money, and if we both agree, we each get our share based on that decision. But if we disagree on that, we both get nothing. My proposal is: I get 990 USD and you get 10 USD. Do you agree with this split?

(Just a note, this a situation in which humans and e.g. chimpanzees make opposite decisions -- chimps, of course, are offered snacks rather than money.)

Raws posted with translations on the side on /a/ count then. Yet MU only includes them once they've been uploaded to batoto or some such. Why? If Mangalator counts, such things should also count.

I see your points and I've been convinced. It makes no sense to violate your own guidelines.
I do apologize for spewing that snarky stuff earlier. 🤢

If that much makes you lose your faith in humanity, you must be the greatest misanthrope ever by now.

Apples and oranges. But if I had nothing to do in return for the money, sure I'd agree with it. $10 more is $10 more.

"If that much makes you lose your faith in humanity, you must be the greatest misanthrope ever by now." -- Fortunately, I have a large reserve.

"Please feel free to prove me wrong." -- I will, after one of two things happens: either a) you attempt to prove your original assertion; or b) you admit that you were making the claim without any ability to back it up, what is colloquially known as "BSing".

"me: I'm sorry, but which part of "you may start a new topic if you are interested" didn't you understand?
you: In other words, you don't have any evidence to back up your assertion."
In other words, you're just being contrary for the sake of your wounded ego. My proposal still stands. If you choose to start a topic, make sure you pm it to me so I don't miss it.

"But if I had nothing to do in return for the money, sure I'd agree with it. $10 more is $10 more." -- understood, thanks for the answer. Therefore, your level of social development is similar to that of a chimpanzee. The vast majority of people, naturally, choose differently. As more complex animals, they have the ability to look a little farther than instant profit. So this actually explains a lot about your attitude to both the present topic and your continued attempts to make money off scanlation. Many things have a price, of course, but when such peanuts are involved, it was puzzling to me... but now that I understand where you stand in terms of your development, I'm not surprised anymore.
