Jesus, I hate how Inagaki writes this story sometimes...
First, he does the same thing that he did with Shinnryuuji and Teikoku by having America as the "LOLOMGWTFHAXXORZ TEAM THAT BRINGS UBERPWNAGE AND CAN'T BE BEAT". Except this time it's more obvious and annoying than usual. And you know Japan's gonna beat them when they face them in yet another way to prove that the team that everyone thought would be a shoe-in as the winner of the tournament isn't so invincible after all. 🙄
And then the whole "Black people naturally have bodies and limits that are legions above anyone else's" thing is blown way out of proportion. Not all black people have a body that's like that the moment they're born. I certainly didn't get one like that.
I don't know, I enjoyed this manga up until this World Cup Arc when Inagaki started to bring in all of these subtle stereotypes to the story. Maybe I'm over analyzing it (I want to be a writer and I now look at every story I read from a writer's point of view as well as a fan's point of view), but the writing's starting to really disappoint me as of late. I'll keep reading it only because Panther is one of the very few black characters in a manga that isn't evil or a total dumbass, and the fact that we get this manga for free. But if it gets worse than this, I'll have to drop it.
What do you all think about this chapter?
Quote from Klapzi
The cool part is that I never get tired of being deceived
Quote from tactics
Just because someone's head was chopped off doesn't mean they're dead. That's just silly.
Personally, I would've been satisfied if it just ended after winning the christmas bowl...then maybe show an epilogue of the characters sometime in the future...

Hopefully Eyeshield doesn't end up like Captain Tsubasa.
