Alright, so I just finished At the End of The Road https://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=136353 and I want to cry because I loved it so much and I'm looking for yaoi/shouen ai recs based on that one. Basically that super angsty vibe of characters with pasts who are strong in their own right but also rely on each other. If that makes any sense? Basically angsty but without one of the characters being totally useless and no super abusive party in the relationship, not into couples raping each other. xoxoxo

I, too, really liked that one. Not one of my absolute all time favs, but definitely in my fav lists.
I can't really come up with something that matches exactly (not that easy considering the very unique plot of ATEOTR, but some come to mind. Have you read "Loverboy" by Zec? Other titles that might match would be "Ten Count" and "Let Dai". I have other ideas but they're darker than that so even if they meet the criteria, they have violence and abuse and other disturbing things in them.
If I'd sit down and really think about it, I could probably come up with a long list, though 😛
An old Shounen ai which perhaps isn't exactly a match, but very sweet even though the story is unusually heavy for a classic shounen ai, is "Little Butterfly" by Takanaga Hinako.
Not BL, but LGBTQ (kind of a mix); perhaps "Smells Like Teen Spirit", which is SO good.
One of the best BL ever written, doesn't exactly match, but angsty it is (I cry buckets every time I read it), and the relationship between the MCs is amazing through the rollercoaster of misery and happiness. "Complex" by Manda Ringo. The art is FUGLY but believe me, it's worth it.
Another one that doesn't really match, perhaps, but definitely are angsty and does portray a very complex relationship, would be Mizushiro Setona's two volumes "The cornered mouse dreams of cheese" and the sequel "The carp on the chopping block jumps twice". Among my all time favs.
"Dark Heaven" might match. I haven't actually read it, haven't gotten to it, but it's pretty much considered to be one of the best BL ever and from what I know of it, I think it might match fairly well.
