want to train a new typesetter

I love reading manga so I want to learn how to do everything when it come to scans.
But I can't draw and I only know english . And before I start learning how to draw and to read japanese.
I want to learn how to typeset and most parts of cleaning using gimp by joining a group. I would prefer
a group that does shounen, sport, slice of life, comedy, martial arts/fighting, adventure, superpowers, seinen, and school life.
All hail for gimp~~
But unfortunately I can't help you D: ... I work on BL, and any potential shounen title seems a bit far away for me atm (my project list is to long and I'm the only one translating xD).
Finding a group that's ok with GIMP might be a bit hard though. I've seen few in the past but most of them if not all disbanded later on.
So if you don't find anybody PM me.... I can teach you, but won't use you since BL is not in your preference.

BL = Boys' Love (Yaoi)
An yeah, Gimp might be a bit hard for typesetting - its text layers aren't editable in Photoshop and a person who's used to Ps is not going to want to QC in Gimp.
As to cleaning - it can be done in Gimp, but it won't be done well with magazine raws (or anything else that requires denoising). There's no good denoiser for Gimp.
You can PM me if you need a temporary (freelance) cleaner/redrawer for some project. Especially if it's something with nice art.
Being the lazy person that I am, I'm not likely to accept anything long-term though.

Which doesn't mean he can't became so good in using GIMP he wouldn't need any QC.
And it's not really true you can't make a clean with magazine raws. There's Nuvola Tools that does from this this (though you do need Linux for this to work).
I guess I wanna say don't discard GIMP so fast and I fully support blackstargalaxy in wanting to try out GIMP... actually I wish GIMP would be more loved by scanlation community in general :/

Not likely. At least not by my standards. During my five years in scanlations I've never QCed a release where I didn't have to change any fonts or their sizes.

Is that supposed to be impressive? I could do a better job (in Gimp) without using any tools.
Besides, this page doesn't even have any grays - a nice looking grays are the main challenge in Gimp.

I had some cleaner applicants over the years, that were only using Gimp. Only one actually managed to pass the test.
I even think he managed to clean one full chapter, but it wasn't as good as if he'd done it in Ps + he decided that it takes him too much time to clean to that extent and he's never cleaned another chapter for me.
Edit
Oh, something I just noticed... blackstargalaxy, two recruitment threads in two days? Really?
You're only allowed to have one thread per team, so I'm pretty sure you can't have two threads for the same person (especially for the same position). You should ask a mod to close the older one: http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=42287

Alot of groups don't like gimp, because most members work with psds to clean.... But if it helps at all, you can get photoshop cs2 free, legally >.< Then I'm sure alot of groups would really like to have you around....
