it basically says in summary. that the cell processor of the ps3 is 20x that more powerful of a regular pc. so it completes 20x or 30x faster than a normal comuter would.

once downloaded onto the ps3, it will run the program which you downloaded and do what ever it has to do. once finished and the next time you go online it will send the information back to Stanford university where it will help to find the answer to cancer!

sooo. over 1 million ps3 have been sold (not including the european launch)

so 1 million ps3s are a lot faster than the slow measly hundreds of computers available

Do PS3's have a special mode for this or something, because, while I don't own one, I am not sure it is wise to leave your PS3 running 24/7 like that, I'd be worrying about nuclear fallout or your house burning down 🤣

well. in the manual if the ps3 starts to overheat it will automatically shut off.

so its safe

I'm quite surprised that this is a serious post!!!
And this is quite interesting, even though I'm not sure how effective this is going to be. Since I doubt that so many people will bother using this thing. But it's an interesting though nonetheless.
And even if they succeed in analyzing the proteins they need. That doesn't mean they will find a cure. But that's still a few steps forward.

Well, I guess it is a good thing no one will get hurt on accident. There is still no reason someone can't do it on purpose! 😀 I've seen xbo360's fry eggs and laptop batteries blow-up, but I have yet to see anything out of a PS3.

that xbox 360 fry eggs. just really impressed me. and made me fear my 360 of cooking my house....

but the newer versions of 360 are suppose to fix that.

and the ps3 has yet to have any problems. only problems people complain about is that they sometimes lose frequency with their blue-tooth controller to the ps3, but thats just a minor problem.

and people do idle a lot, on the 360, and ps3 you can download demos or buy small games, which files can range from 50mb to 500mb+

so thats a lot of hours or mins of downloading, so i doubt ps3 will have a hard time with this program

2 network connection is expensive (and i think ps3 use modem or someting lolz)
3 no one will make it run all the time
4 ps3 will be old in 2 years and pc can be upgraded
5 even ps3 cant be compared to super computers (but they dont care of cancer but military 😀 ah humankind)
6 pc gets new cpus 4 cores now lets wait a little ad we get 16x core processors then your ps3 can blush and hide
7 memory lets say ps3 can store less data than pc (not to mention hybrid hdds that are coming out i doubt that ps3 would have them 🙂 )

and finally i think ps3 suuuuuuuuuucks better buy wii cheaper better and can do the same things as ps3

I just had to post, since this gave me a good laugh.

1. Its not that expensive for a cheap model, that can still run this.
2. Umm..... Do you have the internet at you house? Ok then! You are all set!
3. Some people will, most people won't.
4. Everything out currently will be old in 2-3 years. Thats how Computers work.
5. I don't see how ps3 not comparing to a true supercomputer matters.
6. Yes, it can get those processors. Enjoy paying > $1000 USD.
7. Does it need to store much data for this? Nope.

ps3 will get ld and you cant upgrade it
pc will get old but you can't upgrade it

pc can emulate ps3 (well not know but in future 😀 )

and for cancer itll take quite many years before ppl will be able to cure it so ps3 will be junk with spider webs on it to that time 😀
