^_^ obviously most of us have our own little in public and in private on/off quirks (ie: picking your nose, exploring your body, acne, primping!) at least you would expect that much (it's hard to tell when walking around some big cities)

was just wondering how many readers are themselves "switch people" or reverse switch people like in the manga?
if so please tell, so we don't feel so alone in our shamelessness!
(i even left a fourth choice just in case anyone was feeling a bit socially omnipotent )

i for one definitely hide farts like Nika and the mangaka, what!?! don't judge me! everyone does it!

Not so much a technique, and really, I would have voted 'nonsense' because it does seem the most philosophical answer, however, there is a difference between acting appropriately in a given situation and being who you really are.

Mostly, my switch is me denying my otaku-ness from society, but in the process, stonewalling everyone as well. Thus, only my close friends/parent know of my obsession, while everyone else sees the stereotypical quiet good student (cause I only act like an otaku in the safety of my home). But it is hard to get close to people when you can't be too upfront with your hobbies...

Really, I'd like to go to conventions, cosplay, draw crappy doujins, etc... but I just can't see myself hanging out with other otakus (mostly cause they're a bit too gothic/emo and our tastes in manga/anime are very different). xD Plus, I have yet to actually meet a person who has similar tastes with me (and actually wants to talk about it). ^^;;

i've lived and worked on over 3 different continents and gotten to know all kinds of folks and i believe with certainty that there are quite alot of "switch people" - even though their attitudes may vary from time to time in general there are alot of people with on/off modes

just going from myself as an example, "on mode" outside of the house i'm well groomed, contacts, combed hair, always wear business casual or professional attire at work, even when doing construction/carpending projects i always have some kind of collared shirt or overalls, but "off mode" at home, even though i keep the areas people see tidy, i'm a complete louse! and look ridiculous, hair is usually a mess, might have some creme on my face at any given time, big eye glasses, wear worn but comfy old sweat pants and hoodie like the girl in the book and sometimes sleep on my couch/floor if i feel too lazy to talk to bed (my case might be a little extreme, but i'd say from what i remember from university years and before about 50% of my friends from school were the same way )

yeah i can understand how the concept of "switch people" may be hard to swallow if you haven't seen many folks yet - to think there are people like that. In fact, it seems strange if you approach the topic rationally, but reality is often more ridiculous than fiction

Haha. I haven't read this manga yet, but I can completely relate to the idea of "switch people" explained above. I behave super differently when I'm at home, and when I'm out.

For one, at home, I engage in whatever the hell I want to: sitting in whatever positions I want while wearing a skirt, to playing embarrassing video games, to reading ridiculously cheesy shoujo mangas. When I'm out, I sit properly, discuss the barest minimum of my nerdy tendencies, and don't reveal ANY of my nerdy hobbies. Unless a friend of mine reveals the same nerdy hobbies that I do, then I end up telling them about mine. It makes my day whenever I find someone who has similar hobbies to mine.

I do believe that everyone behaves differently in public, but I also believe that there are some who behave more differently than others.

Hiding farts? Heh heh. Guilty. But really, it's completely natural, so people really shouldn't have to hide them, but we do anyways. Oh society, the things we do for it.

Maybe I should go read the manga now; this thread has made me super interested.

I may be a switch girl. But I have no such techniques to speak of.

yep, switch girl here... though i am getting a bit better. It's becoming circumstantial instead of all the time - applaud me!! ((>.<)) lol....

So I'm like a lazy bum at home, I wear sweats or pjs, no make-up, and am kind of whatever.. But I have a personal rule never to wear sweats out of the house or sneakers for that matter - used to be I never went out w/o a lot of make-up but now I've minimized the process (eyeliner and lip gloss).

Most people think I'm "mature," "nice," and "sweet" '(>.>) I'm more childish than mature, I'm just a bit (lie) selfish and judgemental, at least the sweet part is true. With very close friends and family I'm pretty blunt and opinionated, sarcastic, and talkative, but with others I'm very polite, quiet, overly-courteous, etc. like everyone else here, lol. Oh and never, and I mean NEVER will I reveal any embarrassing hobbies like the fact that I know what manga is or that I love to read romance novels and such.

Only major difference in my social interaction is my topics of conversation / the inclusion or exclusion of cursing. I don't particularly care about either thing, so I tend to let the mindset/comfort level of the other person dictate it.
