It just gets annoying sometimes.
Shouldn't use. Weeaboos are lame.
Pen names in general suck.
Shouldn't be used unless
you draw some very peculiar hentai and
want to protect your identity, though
not necessarily even then.
Definitely not. It's not like they have it patented or something, haha. I do understand why someone would say that to you but let them be. It's not like they're Japanese (probably, hehe).
Even though I dont exactly mind anyone using any pen names, it sounds a bit like a wannabe and who isnt actually..
pls dont take it as a racist thing but its a bit like a brown person like me choosing an obviously white name like Stella or Vivian
Tell me, how many times havent you become judgemental when you call up a call centre and get a Indian accented fella on the other end who calls himself Jason and you think "yeah, right"..

I dunno, maybe American or English, I have a nice non native English accent so if I roped in "Vivian" as my name, i have seen some raise eye brows..at least its easier than people stumbling on my real name..

Don't use names/words from languages you aren't speaking fluently. Don't use names or symbols from cultures, ideologies or religions you aren't affiliated with. It makes you appear dumb when you can't live up to the expectations that your name has raised. Ultimately, it is your choice, though.

Vivian reminds me of aunt Vivian, from Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Never got the feeling that the name might be more fitting for a white person.

You do realize some of the best authors in the world have and do use pen names. Sometimes their real name isn't very marketable or is so long it would be hard to place on a book cover. Either way isn't it basically the same as not going by your real name on message boards?

You mean us Adolf Hitlers and Josef Stalins who want to write children's books? Indeed, how are we supposed to survive without pseudonyms? 🤨

Does that mean that Asian People can't use English Pen names? No. Theres nothing wrong with trying to get closer to a culture you didn't grow up in.

Ever hear of Mark Twain? Maybe George Orwell? Robert Jordan? Dr. Seuss? Judging a book by what someone chose as a pen name is sophomoric.

OK, I clarify, at least non-American and non-English, non-Australian, non-Kiwi and non-canadian...well, that should do it..

You understand neither Mamsmilk nor me, do you? A writer's real name doesn't tell anything about the writer's talent or skill and only morons don't buy a book just because the author's name doesn't sound "marketable". We all know that morons shouldn't exist and that is why pen names shouldn't be used. At least not for those reasons.

Ah, okay, never mind.

I was just trying to make a point with bad examples I suppose..but then again on the whole your opinion goes in the same way mine does, so its cool 😀
Pleasure 😃
Plenty of Asian mangaka choose English words as their pen name. Queenie Law, Caramel Dow, and similar names are definitely not Asian in origin, but are used as pen-names by Asians.
