I agree about Kazuya Minekura. I just love his tones. I vehemently disagree aboutYu Watase. All her heroes and heroines look exactly the same. I may have once thought it was nice art, but now it's too regurgitated for me to really appreciate it.

As far as manhwa is concerned, THE BRIDE OF THE WATER GOD has truly beautiful art. Of course, the plot makes it crap (don't kill me, Saga), but it's still worth looking at for some eye candy.

I would have to say that Airgear is very well drawn, but what i think is the best is Blade of the Immortal, that is just amazing.

There're a bunch but I'd say Bastard!! just because of the time spent on the special effects and shading (even if it's black and white).

Should be Masakazu Katsura works (I"S, Video Girl Ai, Zetman), Takehiko Inoue (SlamDunk, Vagabond), Oh! Great (Tenjou Tenge, Air Gear, Naked Star, Himiko Den) and the one who did Hikaru No Go and Death note. lol Sorry, I forget the mangaka name.

I'd have to put Crying Freeman first. There's so much detail in every panel. People are carefully drawn with accurate anatomy. Cars, guns, clothes, airplanes, and buildings all look like they're supposed to and are generally modeled on real things. It's not really drawn like a comic/manga at all - more like a series of architectural renderings. It's the only manga I've ever looked at that I really wanted to see printed blown up on oversize stock just to see more of the detail. And the bonus is that it's old, so there's no computer halftone fill used. All that fill work was done by somebody with a straightedge and writing implement. My one complaint is that he doesn't draw faces differently. Freeman looks a lot like Koh, Emu looks a lot like the woman Camora assassin, etc.

After that, yeah, probably Katsura. He's cruel to his characters, but there's some very good work in Video Girl Ai and I''s, along with a few moments of greatness in Zetman.

I'd have to mention Yukimura Makoto Planetes and Masamune Shirow Ghost in the Shell. They tend to subordinate their character drawing to the mecha they're so fond of, but they are, to be honest, very good at the mecha and backgrounds.

Oh! Great likewise turns out nice work. I haven't read any of his mangas yet, but the art I've seen is topnotch.

I'd also have to put a word in for Inoue Katsura - Midori no Hibi. It's not great art (though it improves significantly over the run of the manga), but his use of light and shadow, careful framing, intercuts, insets, and carefully placed word bubbles make it a very easy manga to read. He gets the fundamentals right, doesn't let his art get in the way of the story, and seems to have a real gift for plotting and light comedy.

Going over Love Hina again after looking at Midori really pointed out how much worse Akamatsu's mechanics were. His drawings were sloppier and the flow between panels and bubbles was often confused, and Akamatsu's drawing got lazier, if anything, as Love Hina progressed.

same here, akamatsu's work always had some wierd lookin parts where the characters motion looked really awkward or not actually posssible

overall i liked his work tho
