Later in the story, Mamiya meets his high school Exgf in college. She commented on how Mamiya hates women due to his mother and always kept breaking up with girls after a short dating period. He also said he broke up with because he was tired of playing the straight man. This leads me to believe that he was potentially a closet gay and didn’t know it himself.
