Just curious what people thought of the 70 vs 1 battle. While it was entertaining, i felt it broke the established realism that the manga had. I really enjoyed the 1 on 1's and smaller groups but i think 70 on 1 is pushing it. Also i dont know anything about the real Miyamoto Musashi ( want to stay in the dark as to keep vagabond interesting.) but is this 70 vs 1 based off a real event or documented?
Personally i dont think mangas even end anymore. They just get axed.

My research found that the actual Musashi had a feud with the Yoshioka-ryu and they wanted to ambush him but he came willingly and he was the school´s undoing in the end. Even his father had feud with them so it was a generational conflict and he fought about 80 people in the manga which is the definition of artistic license. I bought it though as the manga is hardly a realistic tale (ghosts exist for one) and my gripes with it are the nonsensical stories that are assigned to the supporting cast. (His best work is Real btw.)
I would suggest to watch the Samurai Trilogy which is also based on the same book the manga adapts and the structurally flawed anime documentary Musashi: The Dream of the Last Samurai by Mamoru Oshii as it features an interesting judgment on the legend.
I also read EU/US comics and am a librarian.

In Musashi’s final duel with the Yoshioka School, instead of coming late to the duel, he came on time. The Yoshioka Clan had dozens of people, so Musashi hid until he was given the chance and killed their current leader at the time, Matashichiro. At that point, I don’t think he took down all of the dozens of people, but he was able to ward them off (wielding both swords) as he escaped.
(based off from what I read on his wikipedia page, and musashi-miyamoto.com)
