Okey, just started reading V 12, chapter 1 here and without going into spoilers, why doesn't he just fly down to the place? Was that magic more like levitate then flying? From reading the proper translations on baka-tsuki I though he mastered flying after acknowledging the errors he made in his thinking on how to control it?

As far as volume 7 goes (translations are up to volume 7, volume 12 is not even yet started to be translated), rudeus has only managed to do taopaipai flying technique, which consist on getting on a earth lance and throw it:
Advantages: Goes fast to a place
Disadvantage:High probability of multiple fractures.

So far he has tried it a few times but all of them he ended up with break legs and such

Yah, so we are on the same page here. Due to desperation at that time, flying should have been an option even with the risks right? But it is not considered at all as a solution, that's what I found strange. This made me question my interpretation of his flying abilities.

Well. Volume 12 is almost done, and to answer that question, you expect him to fly to another continent just like that? let me remind you that he is not goku from DBZ that can fly at will. As i told you before, he has only managed to go up in the sky, keep the momentum and then crash land, besides he dosnt know the exact limits of his magic capacity, so he will die if he get out of mana in the middle of the sea.

I don't think he mastered flying yet, he has attempted to try to though. In Vol. 4 Chapter 42 (part 3) in the bakatsuki translations, he tries to learn how to fly but creates a kind of half ass technique lol. He launches himself in the air by creating a blunt earth lance. Using wind magic he accelerates and decelerates, he also creates a pool of water where he wants to land to reduce the impact from landing. Before he made this technique though he had been failing by just using wind magic to try and fly because he said "It was extremely difficult to make my body float in the air with wind magic". I can't remember any other part of the story where he is able to fly with just wind magic or even try to master it 😕 . Hope this clears things up for people. 😀

Glad you finally caught up :-). Anyway clarifying what I meant, In the ending of V.11 and beginning of V.12 he is desperate for a solution and I found it strange that the writer didn't mention flying even if he would shoot down the suggestion himself.

He might not be Goku but his manna is over 9000! 😃
