This week's poll comes from our member BlackOrion. He's wondering how much ecchi do you like in your manga. Of course it's subjective, but hey, so are most of these polls!

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related):
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: When the author and artist of a series is different, I care more about the
Choices:
Author - votes: 3082 (25.9%)
Artist - votes: 3071 (25.8%)
Doesn't matter - votes: 5753 (48.3%)
There were 11906 total votes.
The poll ended: April 21st 2012

That's pretty dead even between author and artist. Dang... I guess opinions are split on this, eh?

What kind of series are we talking about here?

Sex appeal and sexual jokes aren't necessary at all or even relevant for a lot of genres, and it seems like a very odd question to ask. Sounds to me like this poll is limited to shounen series targeted at adolescent boys...

it hurts my eyes, i cant stand ecchi...
there are very rare exeptions though...like b gata h kei
but generally i avoid anything tagged as ecchi
i like manga with sexual jokes or perverted characters(e.g. longer and slower than a river) but if its purely fanservice then i cant stand it

Where's the "indifferent" option? I read and watch a lot of ecchi manga and anime but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy series with no ecchi elements whatsoever.

And besides, is the amount of ecchi content usually a measure of a "good series?" Unless we're talking about stuff like Kissxsis or To Love-ru Darkness, I doubt it.

Me too, in the past I liked ecchi too, but after growing older, you start to hate it. Because "the ecchi" can ruin a good story. Their aren't many series that are tagged ecchi that I was reading in the past, that I'm still reading now (History's strongest discipline Kenichi is one of those rare, that I'm still reading)

a GOOD series doesn't need any
a bad series needs a lot, and even then I fail to see why I should read it

I think u phrased the question wrong. Even if a person enjoys ecchi, the answer is still none if they Also like non-ecchi stories. "How much ecchi do you like in manga" may have been better or better yet. "do you like ecchi" with options "yes, no, only for comedy"

Honestly... What kind of answers are these?
There are good series, that need lots and lots of ecchi, and there are good series which would be bad if there were even a little ecchi.

This is an odd question, because a series can be good with or without ecchi. It completely depends.

As someone who's read a lot of ecchi, even I know a manga can be fantastic without a single spec of fanservice within it.

I voted just enough though, because an overkill of anything is just plain annoying, so yeah.

Weird poll.

I would say just enough (though I do also enjoy series without ecchi) otherwise it can be slightly annoying since from my limited perspective, I can easily imagine it coming across as a cynical attempt to get boys interested in girls (in order to increase the Japanese / East Asian birthrate) so they do not become "grass-eaters" by making a series as pointlessly ecchi as possible.

When it comes to 'ecchi,' the risque level of content in titles can differ greatly; it may go from sexual jokes, to a few panty-shots, to extensive fan-service, to nudity, all the way to full-on intercourse. Compare: Doujin Work, Love Hina, KissxSis, Yomeiro-Choice, & Aki-Sora. Whether a series is shounen or seinen plays a part as well, with the latter being generally stronger.

There are great ecchi titles out there, and I am not about to condemn an entire genre. However, if you have a tendency to bash it, I suggest you stop reading it altogether. There are many more fan-service free manga that might float your boat.

Personally it really doesn't matter to me. If it's just outright fan service I have learned to overlook it. I like perverted humor though.. At least if it's done right.

I just went with "Just enough to make it funny" but really for me it doesn't matter. I can have selective viewer should I chose to. :3
