Okay, so I added the title Tokyo Mew Mew a La Mode because couldn't find it on here. I entered series info and hit Submit. And then I found out the series had to be approved by an administrator, but a part of me thought that I would see the series' page almost immediately like when I edit a series' page like for Hana Kimi's. Unfortunately, I can't edit my submission (no records like IMDB, from what I can see) by just resubmitting. Now it says that the name of the series is already taken (but that leaves problems for series that have the same title such as the shoujo series Mars and the shounen series Mars).

Anyhow, I'm making this sound more complicated than it is. My suggestion is that maybe a note (perhaps in caps) be put on the top of the new series submission page or around the Submit button (above it or below) say something like "new series will require approval by the administrator/moderator".

Is there a real problem here?...I don't really understand what your first paragraph has to do with the second one. Is there actually a real problem presented in your first paragraph?

As for your suggestion for adding a note, that's very easy to do since there's already a section at the top that's under "Note", so it shouldn't be hard to add another line of text. I'll leave it up to Manick to decide if he'll add that or if it's already assumed. (EVERYTHING you ADD requires an admin to approve it, but series CHANGES do not.)

I'm experimenting with the idea of letting users (who have been members for a while and have added previous series) to just let them add series without approval. For now though, we require that admins check to make sure that the series is real before we let it go to our database. I will add the note though, because I think it is a good idea.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Admins are usually fast with approving and after that you can edit the series you submitted. Without this, there would be ppl adding fake series for just the heck of it 🙄

Very true. If you haven't noticed, the number of series you add is recorded and is available to the public. Some people have such an ego that they want that number to go up in any way possible. (Same with number of added releases, added authors, and forum posts)

The hilarious thing is when I made the original post, I saw the change when I was adding a series, but couldn't even find my post (for a while, like checking for my last replied stuff, my own posts--but I don't think that exists like on IMDB--excuse the excessive plugging if you will Edit: Oh geez, I found this when I hit the link of my name in the forum. I thought it would be in the User CP XD Do think think 5 posts back is enough though? 😉) and thought I had wrote up the whole thing and hadn't hit Submit, but maybe someone else had mentioned the idea or the admins read my mind. ^^; XD

I probably should've added this before, but since the note is on the top and it's a bit long...I think it would be good if the text be in another colour, like even orange (red might be too threatening), the part that says the submission will be checked by an administrator. ^^;

I know the form isn't as hard as IMDB's one (and if you've had to or wanted to add a title, it requires about 5 edits so that the submission will go through and be considered) though.

I don't even know where the record of how many series I've added are though, and I've been here for months. Maybe I can find it in my own space if I look. 😉 - Nah, no go for me. XD - Oh wait, I have to care enough to look up a person's profile. XD

Edit:
Oh geez, now I got to make my post longer. Or I could make a new thread and post but, ehhh. ^^;

Okay, this comment of mine got lost in all my talking, sadly.

Now it says that the name of the series is already taken (but that leaves problems for series that have the same title such as the shoujo series Mars and the shounen series Mars).

I wanted to submit "One" which is a title from TokyoPop http://www.tokyopop.com/S-1216/1.html, but it says that there's a series under that name in the database. I look and I don't see any series under the name "One", unless "One" is an alternative name for another manga.

(And yeah, I was mistaken about the part where there are two manga series with the title Mars, since one is just Mar and the other is Mars. Perhaps I got a bit confused too because other people have been calling "Mar" "Mars". 🤢 )

I'm not sure if I followed everything you said in that last post... 🤢
But it's easy to tell wich series uses the alternative title "One", just use the manga [(m)] (remove the parenthesis of course). And to test it here: One and I actually bothered to look it up the "hard" way (using the search feature) and got this: Series name "One plus One" alternate name: One.

Right, "One" is the alternate name of another manga. For some times, such as if Mars was taken, then someone could add Mars (shoujo) as the title.

There was a version of The Tale of Genji I was considering adding but I don't know for sure if it would be just the same thing.

http://www.shoujomagic.net/update/index.php?module=smmanga&func=display&sid=204

To me, I think it may be different because the person who it is by (or the artist) is YAMATO, Waki while the other Tales of Genji lists it as as by MURASAKI Shikibu (the author of The Tale of Genji, if you didn't already know) and the artist as EGAWA Tatsuya. But is the title worth adding? There hasn't been a release yet (but Siana of Shoujomagic probably won't let that stay like that if she can).

Also, for mangaka, I don't know if there has to be any worries of mixing up the entry of a mangaka's name, such as surname first when submitting a new manga. It says surname first when adding a mangaka, but not when adding a series (where it might be the first title under the mangaka's name in the database). Maybe you could add a note on the series submission page that the surname is first? 🙂

Also, I don't know know if this has been mentioned about the search engine for a mangaka fickle. When I looked up Chiho SAITO, the mangaka of Utena, I found tthat "SAITO Chiho" works, "SAITO, Chiho" does not and "Chiho SAITO" does not either. But it should work either way as English fans will end up using her surname last as that is how it's printed on the books with her name.

And this first name-last name business is really confusing. 🤢 It took me a while to realize that all this time in Kare Kano for the anime that Yukino has referred to Arima by his last name (his first name is Souchiro(sp?)) and yet she's known him all this time and they are suppose to be like white on rice. That's not a spoiler though, since I don't even remember it being mentioned in the story (but have yet to finish it).

I think, that any new addition to the database, whether there are releases for it or not is welcome. (And I didn't get the rest of the post, but I'm sure Manick could help you with that...)

For the manga, just add it.
For the surname thing, that's not really my specialty...I let others deal with that...(I myself am confused)
For the search engine, just try either "saito" or "chiho", not both together. Allows more room for error...

Don't worry, you're not the only one confused about first/last name business

I've already managed to add a few series, and i already knew about it when i first read the message "will require approval." Didn't really have any problem with it, seeing as all of them were out and viewable on the site.

i would think it's obvious for it to be checked.

as for the searching thing, i sometimes run into "no such series" or whatever error message i get when i search for not only authors but also a series. for example if i make a simple mistake with the apostrophe or miss a letter i get an error message. I guess because there's a different way of spelling the title.

The search system is very basic. I have plans to improve it (but then again I have plans for lots of things).
