Its not like I'm an English teacher or anything but it irritates the hell out of me when people do that "IM speak" for the majority of what they've said.

I don't know how to refer to it other than "IM speak" because I'm sure it first surfaced in instant messaging. To make sure you know what I'm talking about(you can probably guess), its when they'll say something like: "wen will u b there? cn I go 2?" instead of "when will you be there, can I go too?".

I can handle slang and abbreviations. I use them too and imo their use is fine, because they're whole words(just new made up ones) or a string of letters than stand for two or more words. At a glance you'll understand what they mean.

I guess in some cases that "IM speak" is necessary, like in texting on a cell phone or in cases where you're limited in the amount of letters you can use.

I however find that in all other cases its very rude to use. Why? because the only purpose for it is to make typing less taxing for the writer. That difficulty is directly transferred to the reader. Now, instead of reading regular English, the reader has to decipher what the writer was trying to say. Sure its doable, but it takes longer if you're not used to that gibberish. Its also inconsiderate to non-English speakers. They're already having some degree of difficulty in understanding English, and now they have to also translate the bullshit spewed out by some lazy jackass.

Sorry, I just had to rant a bit. I only mention this because I go to the "I'm lookin' for" forum a lot and its very frustrating when someone asking for help makes it that much harder for the people who're doing the helping by butchering every other word.

Of course, if I say anything there It'd be trolling so.. bastards...
