So this is what I remember.

There are these levels of magic and you have to get big rings of magic to improve your level. These rings come from powerfull beasts, so the more powerfull the beast the more powerfull the magic ring. There is this boy who gets a kind of blue grass as his weapon and everyone considers that weak, but he modifies it with when he levels up his magic. Everyone has these special abilities unique to them. For example: He modified his grass to be poisonous.
