Hello, people. I'm kind of new to this website so I'm sorry if this question is in the wrong section.

I've heard this word, "kusogaki" (くそがき) in an anime called Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora and, in the subtitles, it appeared translated as "brat" and "kid" but then I went to a japanese-english dictionary, it was translated as "son of a b!1?h"...

The word is said a considerable ammount of times and is said by someone who is fond of the boy who's called that.

Now... What is the real meaning of this? This is probably a stupid question but it has been bothering me. Thanks for your help! 🙂

Gaki is a brat/kid etc word. Kuso is quite literally(or at least one meaning of the word is) shit.

So it is pretty much going "(You) shitty brat." The expletive is used to belittle the characters... well, character, for example. They behave badly or are way selfish or something. Whether or not it is actually insulting depends on the context, which in your example, sounds like it is more a case of being close enough to use it without being insulting. Or not caring about it.
