Since I often find even my 15" laptop screen too small, I sincerely doubt I'd be able to get used to, much less enjoy, reading manga on a 10" or smaller tablet.
I don't like having to zoom or scroll, and prefer to read in double-page mode... Something that only seems to work on my 24" screen (puts less strain on my eyes).

Or maybe I just don't understand the advantage of iPads or other tablets.
For the price of one tablet, you could easily buy a netbook and have money to spare for a 22"+ external display (for when at home).
Which allows you to actually DO something on the darned thing instead of just viewing and surfing.

I often read manga on my iPod when I'm too lazy to get out of bed. I use Opera Mini to surf the web so loading images is a lot faster.

Is it a smartphone? If you have one, I don't see why you wouldn't use it to play music or surf the web unless you don't have wifi or got a crappy data plan. Means one less device you carry on you. Reading in bed is awesome, go try it sometime.

I only read manga on my smartphone since getting one last year.

Yeah, I've been using an app on my android to read manga sometimes. I usually read on it before bed, at school, or wherever I don't have access to my laptop. It's small and it works; however, I would love to have one of those 7 inch tablets though, haha.

I have a galaxy note, which is quite a larger screen compared to normal phones. I have the mangashearch app and I read manga on it quite well. It has a zoom function too so it makes it fun to read manga while not being bothered to get up out of bed, or while out somewhere and bored.

Don't read manga on my phone, but I did just find this app for baka-tsuki that lets me read their book translations. It's pretty simple but it works

I never said I don't surf the web.
You silly person, just because I don't read on my phone doesn't mean I don't (or can't) read in bed.
I mean, I have physical copies. And a kindle-type e-reader.

I just don't think it's very comfortable and it ends up draining the battery smartphones simply can't spare.
And reading novels (words) is different from reading manga (pictures and tiny speech bubbles).
But hey, that's just my opinion. I like having something for every thing.
You can go kill your eye-sight and battery for some more manga crunch time. 🤣

I like reading while lying on my back, so books and tablets are too impractical (not enough light or takes too much energy to hold up). Maybe it's because I'm used to it, but I don't feel uncomfortable at all reading either manga or novels. Manga just takes a lot more scrolling to read.
I have a charger for power outlets so I don't run out of batteries anyways and my eyesight isn't horrible (it's like 30/20).

I used to read manga using an app called Mango on my android smart phone while commuting to work. I stopped reading manga on my phone when I started reading The Wheel of Time series and believe it or not, I read the whole freaking thing on my phone (ok maybe 90% of it on my phone, 5% on my sister's old tablet and 5% on the PC). If you're not familiar with the series, I can tell you that each of the 14 books is about 1000 pages long.

Out of the 3 devices I used while reading, the cell phone was the most comfortable. It was light, fit in a single hand and I was able to turn pages using the same hand. The app I used for reading (FBReader) allowed me to adjust the brightness on the go, so I was able to save some battery life and maybe my eyes too. On the other hand the old tablet was too heavy and I had to use both my hands to hold it. PC was forcing me to move my eyes a lot (since the screen is big), PC LCD screens tend to be super bright, so it was tiering for the eyes and I can't really read from my PC while lying in bed. A small tablet or a e-ink powered ereader would be probably even better.

A while back I even read a volume or two of Suzumiya Haruhi on my Dingoo A320...

Going back to manga. Despite the small screen of the phone, it was quite readable, you just have fit a single panel on the screen while reading.

This seems to ve a very old thread, but since someone else revived it, I guess I can post in it too!

I got iPad which my school bought to me, and I noticed that it is nearly perfectnto use for reading manga. I got app called MangaRock on it - the app allows me to search manga from multiple sources (MangaHere, MangaFox, MangaEden, MangaReader for example), read it and favorite it. Best is that I can update my favorite list and it shows new updates - just one touch away from reading them. It has two reading modes - single page or it can simulate a book. Also brightness control and it sustains zoom if wanted.

Using MangaRock for reading and this site for checking ratings, reviews etc. makes a great combo. I can only recommend.

I also got similar app for my Android phone, Quick Manga, I think, but I don't use it so much. The screen is too small for me. ;_;

Not scanlations, but I do read some viz manga on their app. I normally don't like to read on a tiny screen, but if I'm on the bus with nothing to do, and as long as it's a series with small panels, it reads OK. The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't have landscape mode.
