Prism Put on Hold Due to Similiarities to Photos
The website for Houbunsha's Tsubomi manga magazine has issued a notice stating that Show Higashiyama's yuri manga Prism will be placed on hiatus while the magazine's editorial department investigates similarities that have surfaced between sections of certain drawings from the series and photographs found online.
When anonymously confronted on Twitter with the images, Higashiyama replied that the photos in question were indeed used by him as reference material, but that he did not trace over the images as was suggested. While the photo at left is from a wallpaper posted on the title's Houbunsha website, a panel from the manga itself, as well as a previous manga cover by Higashiyama have also been called into question.
Prism runs irregularly in Houbunsha's Tsubomi yuri magazine, and its first collected volume was released in April.
Other artists involved in cases of alleged tracing or allegedly infringing use of copyrighted photographs include Dashi Master's Naotsugu Matsueda, as well as Embracing Love's Youka Nitta, and Takehiko Inoue over panels from his Slam Dunk.

its so obvious that ALOT of artist [more or less] trace other works
be it protographs or other comics
it feels like its only being questioned when someone in the company dont like the mangaka
or when ALOT of readers for some reason just decide to ganghate the mangaka
i feel a little sorry for Higashiyama

That's why you need lackeys to take your own reference photos.

Indeed making a yuri manga? What's better to have two cute girls posing for you? 😛
What's interesting is that he does acknowledge that he used the pics as reference but not as tracing, which should do a huge difference. I mean really...whatever someone draws if it has something to do with reality it can always be projected to a picture or drawing. Humans aren't that original in the 20th century anymore...
I'm sitting on my bed and writing on my laptop, if someone starts drawing this pose in their manga, does that mean that they traced me on a paper and used me without giving me royalties ?! gasp
Humans are allowed to use their heads...once in a while.

Those scenes did seem strangely suspicious, the artwork just suddenly felt out of place. I like(d) the series, sad if this means a premature end.

Same here. (Ignoring things like parody) Tracing in manga works is pretty common, its just that people VERY rarely get called out on it.
That said, things don't look good for Higashiyama. Judging art "theft" is a VERY subjective field to the point that; if you're being accused in the first place, people (and the judge) will automatically assume that you're guilty.

bleh what a shame, one of the few yuri mangas that focused on a somewhat realistic relationship. rather then being a neverending tease or completely out of touch with reality 🙁

Such a shame. I'm sure lots of artists resort to tracing some stuff, it's a pity Show is called out for it. Of course it would have been better to have made it more subtle.. they better not axe anything because of this T_T

pretty much every artist uses drawing reference when trying to get a pose right- i havent seen the images in question but with an amazing artist like hagashiyama it would probably be very accurate and look like tracing- especially with his are style.
not everything can be pulled out of thin air- and when you are trying to get a pose right that you arent familiar with- googling it and using a pic as reference is something every artist does.
if he copied the whole pic or did something like gene simons kid did with bleach thats one thing- but if its just a 'pose' that he copied and everything else was different thats another.

Will it really be in vol.20? Doesn't mention anything about it here: http://tsu-bo-mi.jp/?p=3589
Also, I heard they've already pulled the first volume from stores.
