I went around today clicking on a bunch of authors I like to see if they had a new series... then I realized the site could do it for me.

It could be like a personalized list of authors, that whenever a new series entry is made under his name, you could be notified in some way (maybe have his name go up to the top of the list like in manga lists, or have some sort of notification above the lists).

Additionally the list could be updated when the series gets a release date, when it gets a spin-off/sequel, or when its first scanlation appears.

(sort of hijacking your topic since its similar to an idea of mine.)
I would love something like that. Sort of how when you have a series in your reading list it gets that little red number saying there is a new upload right?

I know there are a couple of authors I'm interested in but most of their series listed here don't even have a description yet, let alone any updates. It would be nice if you could have a watch list and it will tell you if any of the manga of that author has been updated. Maybe have it so it can be sent to your messages if you wished.

As something along similar lines it would also be nice to rate and comment on an author in general, like how you can with manga. (maybe separate art and story for rates since some only do one or the other)
There are so many times that I just want to know if an author in general is good or if the manga of theirs I read what the only good/bad one.

I second bikkou's suggestion. I've always wanted an easier way for me to learn when my favorite authors start a new series. I remember how tedious it was to check if Adachi Mitsuru's rumored new series was out already XD.

Additionally the list could be updated when the series gets a release date, when it gets a spin-off/sequel, or when its first scanlation appears.

What I do for that is I create a custom list for all untranslated works I'm interested in. It is in essence a wish list, but I designate it as a reading list then sort it "by latest release." If something gets scanlated, it gets bumped to the top of the list.

The only flaw I see with that method is I have to regularly check that list for updates, but that's only if I don't see the release in the RSS feed to begin with. The manga also has to be in MU's database for this to work (which brings us back to bikkou's suggestion).
