Troika games had also gone bankrupt despite making genuinely good games.
The reason GSC is in their current situation is that they'd spent a lot of time on STALKER. When they started its development, PC FPS were still dominating the market. By the time they finished, though, new gen gaming consoles took the central stage in most of the world. STALKER was never released on any other platform than the PC so it wasn't as much of a commercial success as it could have been or should have been. And now the development cost of STALKER 2 has finally brought the company to a halt, it seems.
