Make a demographic section for Shounen, Seinen, Shoujo, Josei. They're not a "genre". With it, put a proper description of what they are. Seinen series should not be thought as "Violent, full of sex, 18+ only" series which a lot of people already believe.

Still find it annoying when people classify ClayMOAR as a seinen...

Excellent idea - would help a lot of people, I think.

If I do remember, Manick already talked about implementing something similar... But I have no idea if it still is planning to do it.

Bump.

Here's my suggestion for this, because this (imo) is very important to implement because there are still plenty of people who believe that Seinen is a genre and is dedicated to Violent, Adult mangas.

Make it so that when a series is assigned a magazine, it is given the demographic that the magazine has.

I seventh that. But don't some magazines usually have one or two manga series with a different demographic?

Eight. I doubt a magazine would have more than one main demographic, so it'd be better to just list the main one.

Well, your assumption is wrong. o__o Some magazines are harder to determine their 'demographic' for.

I would support this... as long as I can still filter/colour-highlight releases and titles by the shoujo/shounen/etc categories. Because that's my best way of telling at a glance how likely I am to be interested in a given title.

Most magazines do have specific demographics. Normally seinen/josei lack furigana so its mostly for people that are mature ie are better at kanji. Most Shoujo/shounen have furigana, thus its easier to read. :]

Yea, well, what determines a manga's demographic is the magazine they're in. >_< So even if a story is totally shounen-ish, if the magazine's shoujo, then its a shoujo (Banana Fish anyone?)

I eight/ninth/whatever we're at this suggestion. :3

And lys' still being able to highlight and whatnot~

Heh, I've just corrected a "josei" to "seinen" and was about to suggest exactly this. It's really the easiest way.

As for hybrid magazines with different demographics (e.g. Beans Ace), they could be tagged with two. I don't see a problem here, Comipedia does it like this as well.

I would like to see this combinated with the suggestion to tag series as Manhwa, Manhua and OEL since these become more and more popular here at MU and technically would fall out of the democraphic tagging by mags (though, Manhwa can be tagged as Sunjeong for girls, Sonyeon for boys and Seongin for men and women, but I have no clue if it's according to the mags as well).

Btw, I think that even Yaoi should be broken down into content that's aimed at women and content that's aimed at gay men. I know that some Yaoi magazines(content aimed at women) are like carried/sold at bookstores catering to gay men.

Edit: The same goes for Yuri, I think. There's Yuri found in hentai, Yuri found in magazines like Loud(aimed at gay women) and Yuri found in magazines like Yuri Hime(aimed at teenage girls, I think?).
