well that sucks, but when MU was shut down, it was a given that others would follow. Maybe sopa will not pass, but "this" is their response to it. While RIAA and co didn't succeed with torrent sites, it seems that they got their way with file hosting.

Which sucks cuz torrents are filled with so much #$%$ you are less likely to get a virus from sleeping with pamela anderson 🤢 .

Doesnt know how to torrent, lol.

Doesn't matter how well you know your way around, viruses are always a risk, and that's that.

You know, I had a feeling they were going to be next to get hit by the ban hammer. They always seemed to be the service of choice for dissatisfied MU customers. I guess they thought so too and castrated themselves before the FBI did. Even so, this is just wrong. The only way it could be any worse is if they start up another round of uploader/downloader persecutions. 😔

Uploaded.to also seems to be gone now in the US too. I wonder how Canada is this time of year. 🤢

WTF are you torrenting? If you are torrenting crappy American shows and executables (apps and games), then you deserve it. I'm only torrenting anime, and anime fansub groups put CRC32 in the filenames for a reason. Not to mention that there is a reliable tracker exclusive for anime.

For some odd reason, I'm REALLY starting to hate that I'm American 🙁

Uploaded.to still seems to work, but Filesonic's file sharing is gone.

Uploaded.to just blocked US IP. Other countries should still work.

Sorry, just to clarify, is it safe to torrent anime? lol, as another means of getting them. Might be a dumb question but I'd just like to know.

@momomilk usually it is. I torrent straight from the subbers tho, which would be your safest bet.

@caozhi

Thanks. I usually torrent from the subbers as well, but I get the torrents through nyaa (if those are linked directly to the subbers I assume).

Also, was wondering if you ever used peerblock? A friend of mine who torrents uses that and recommended to me.

That has not yet been decided. The FBI is not a court.

They tend to act like it though =l

If they want this to succeed, they have to make everything that we could get illegally on the internet more accessible than the illegal ones, but, since you have to pay for copy right rites I doubt that is going to happen. If only the world didn't revolve around money (sigh) is the manga community going to suffer from these new laws?

Actually, I do believe that is a big part of the answer to piracy. Most people won't go through the trouble of pirating South Park, the Daily Show or the Colbert Report since they host full episodes and clips online, even if they have to deal with a crap ton of commercials. Sadly, those are the exceptions and not the rule.

Depends on the case, some are completely shut, others are closing(they aren't selling premmium anymore), some are closed only in the US and affiliated countries, 4shared was "only" ordered to delete all the copyrighted material and mediafire has 90 days to explain itself and will have to let the FBI in their database, Rapidshare will only let you upload things over 100mb if you have premium acc and agrees to their conditions, so when you upload something FBI considers "illegal" you are going to be fucked instead of the site.

EU has given their hosters in a platter.

Well, I guess our only alternative right now would be... DOWNLOAD DOWNLOAD. heh
Ok, seriously now. I wonder, what will happen to torrent then? If it is a hosting site they can easily target the owner(s) but what happens when the the content is held and shared by the users?
