In her New Year's Day blog entry, manga creator Yuu Watase confirmed on Wednesday that her Arata: The Legend (Arata Kangatari) manga is "heading toward the climax." Watase also revealed in the blog post that she has launched a Twitter account.

Watase launched Arata: The Legend in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in 2008, and the 22nd compiled volume shipped in Japan on December 18. Viz Media publishes the manga in North America, and it shipped the 16th compiled volume on December 10.

Viz Media describes the manga's story as follows:

In a mythical world where humans and gods co-exist, Arata has the unfortunate honor of being the successor to the matriarchal Hime Clan. This means he has to pretend to be a girl or face death if his true gender is discovered! On the day of his inauguration, an assassination plot forces him to flee - and he somehow winds up in modern-day Japan! Meanwhile, a boy named Arata Hinohara gets sucked into the first Arata's world and finds himself dealing with people after his life!

The manga received a 12-episode anime adaptation last spring, and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired.

Watase published several one-shots last year, including "Honma Kaidan" (Real Ghost Stories) and "Ano Koneko no Mirai wo Watashi wa Shiranai" (I Don't Know That Kitten's Future). Watase also ended her Fushigi Yƻgi: Genbu Kaiden manga spinoff in February 2013 after nearly 10 years of serialization.
