Why do bows in manga turn backwards?

Whenever an archer shoots, the bow is always flipped around. I was wondering if this is a Japanese thing or what?
Example:

Do you have other examples? This one can be explained by bad perspective.

Maybe this?

"Yugaeri (Turning of the Bow)
The yugaeri, the technique where the Japanese bow turns in the left hand after the release, is an action that causes the bowstring to travel from its original position on the inner left arm to the outer side of the left arm."
Another description:

"Immediately after the shot is released, the bow will (for a practised archer) spin in the hand so that the string touches the archer's outer forearm. This technique (which is strived for as it illustrates the archer's skill) is called yugaeri and is unique to oriental archery."
