I have a secret. I've always wanted to be a ballerina. I guess nearly every little girl has. It's the untouchable grace of the dance and those who dance it, the strict rigidity of its rules and instructors, and the possibility of reaching greatness.

So I live out my fantasies by reading ballet manga.

I like ones from the 70s and 80s that focus on hard work and determination, like Swan and Arabesque, but my very favorite is Hagio Moto's Roma e no Michi. I've also read and liked Subaru, Blue Bird, and Doll. Are there any I'm missing?

RideBack? It's semi-related to ballet.

The anime is finished.

If you like Arabesque, then you'll certainly like Maihime Terepsikola and it sequel Wilis, an award-winning ballet manga by the same author.

Roma e no Michi looks so good! 🙁

The only one I have to add is Toe Shoes, but it might be too childish.

UEHARA Kimiko did a bunch of ballet themed shoujo manga, though only two listed on MU database : Happy Mari-chan and Maiko no Uta . The others are : Ai no Arabesque, Gin no toe shoes, Lovely Mari-chan, Hakuchou no uta (not quite sure about the last title, as I don't have the books anymore)

I loved them more than SWAN when I was a child 🙄

others:
SWAN hakuchou no inori : not as good as SWAN
Nijinskii Guuwa. According to prism : about the genius dancer Nijinsky.

Oh, no one's mentioned Princess Tutu yet?

If you're a fan of Hagio Moto, there's also the lovely Flower Festival.

Notable but not very good is Eien no Koi no Mahou, based on the trashy Harlequin novel Holding Onto Alex.

Thanks for all the suggestions! ^^ I did some searching and found some more that are beautiful but so obscure and out-of-print that I'll probably never be able to lay eyes on them.

Ballet Monogatari, a kind of guide-to-ballet in manga form.
Drina Ballet Series, based on the lovely British children's series.

Makimura Satoru, one of my favorite authors for the do-your-best theme, also has a few.
