Also, the introduction of the category tags was a pretty big change (or should I say addition?) for MU.

The "Looking for..." section of the forum was added I think the year after I joined.
I get the reason for it, but to me... it's just flooded with "Looking for yaoi" and "I forgot the title! herp derp"

But that's completely the point of the Looking For section. It's very frustrating to forget a title to a manga you've read. And yaoi/yuri has it's own section now so it's not flooding the regular Looking For section.
And now for a herp derp question. What are the category tags? Are they just new additions to the tag dictionary? Because I've seen a lot about it but I don't actually know what it is. Yes, I know I'm stupid.

The tag dictionary consists of category tags.
They did not exist some time ago and now they do.

yeah and these tags classify manga into a more precise theme. it improves the related manga search but sometimes it doesn't help

new posts in 18+ board not showing on the front page anymore
I think the resident "troll" (if you wanna call him that) when I first joined was Ares6, but he got banned so.
Separate mods for every board

[color=#800080]Also, on a side note, Weekly Shounen Jump series used to be released on Fridays at the earliest, and that was only the big three, the rest were released Sat/Sun. Gradually scanlators got faster and now we get them Tuesday/Wednesday. Kudos to the scanlators![/color]

lol, I remember ares6. And there was one other person that was with him, always double teaming in trolling but ares6 got banned and the other one just went away
