So... I'm a fan of Major (the anime, since there are very few chapters translated of the manga). I was watching ESPN like I usually do and find out that a gyroball is actually a real pitch to my amazement. The Red Sox seem to have the rights to talk to Daisuke Matsuzaka (sp?) and we're being told he throws one.

Wow...

The definition given by the Around the Horn guys said it's basically a fastball that curves left... if I remember correctly.

I've completely forgotten the anime definition of a gyroball, though it's basically a fastball with something to it...

Edit: Love Wikipedia!

man, i miss around the horn is at college with no tv and common room is too inconvenient

I read the wiki. Sounds like a cool pitch. Hope its worth it for the Red Sox. (seeing as some of those pitchers - like a hideki something on the yankees years ago- turn out to be a fools gold)

wait, are you from brooklyn or is that some joke? asks because he is from the bronx

it seems like it is a little flatter than a slider, imo

Hideki Irabu

And yes, I'm from Brooklyn.

Everyone's saying he's definitely getting signed so he probably won't be signed and the Red Sox will save all their money (if there is no deal between the Seibu Lions and the Red Sox, the money goes away).

small world, i guess. I have met so many people from the boroughs online.

Hideki Irabu was such a horrrible horrible failure. Hopefully, Daisuke wont be that. At least, if he doesnt go to the Red Sox, i hope he doesnt go to the yankees seeing as the mets could use any rotation help. I am also a huge met fan, btw.

Hehe. I'm a New York guy so whoever's good, I'll be rooting for. I guess I'm skewed to the Yankees, Jets, Knicks, and Rangers, though.

Daisuke Matsuzaka has faced MLB hitters in the World Baseball Classic, and from what I hear, he did pretty good. They did win the WBC, if I remember correctly.

A Yankees fan, eh? i guess i should be one considering i was born and raised in the BX. Meh, to hell with them.

Don't remind me about the WBC because it reminds me of the NCLS. Both the dominican team (i am dominican, among other things) and the mets got to the level right before the top before getting tossed out. I THINK Japan beat Cuba in the final but i cant be sure. In any case, as long as the red sox close the deal, i dont have much of a problem. Hopefully, he wont be a flash in the pan and can become an established pitcher in the league for years to come.
