Do you really think the characters name is grimmjow? All the scanlations say grimmjow. Seriously, Grimmjow? It has to be Grimmjaw. He has a fraking skeleton jaw thing, it makes way more sense. Jow isn't even a word. I haven't read any of the official us releases so I don't know if the official translation is "grimmjow" but I hope that it isn't. I already don't like how the shinigami are called "soul reapers" or whatever.

yeh, never though of that, it makes sense.
i also dont like when they translate unecessary things like shinobi, shinigami, etc..
everyone who watchs anime or reads manga probably already know all those terms as they are used a lot..

Well considering Grimmjow is a name, the exact spelling may be incorrect depending on how its translated.
But on the comment about how jow isn't a real word, Grimmjow is a name so each syllable of the name doesn't exactly have to be a real word or even derive from another word.

Also i do agree with you on how they beat around the bush with the terminology, its rather pointless considering that any who watches anime or reads manga has a certain level of understanding of those terms. Then again its probably used so its easier to understand for people who are new to the whole concept of anime/manga.

Well I don't think official translating organisations such as Viz are going to translate just for people like us that are already familiar with the terminology.
I think they also still want to sell their product to people unfamiliar with japanese terminology, so that they won't have to spent ages thinking about the meaning of words as "shinigami", "shinobi", "baka", ....

Grimmjow is just a name. It may sound suggestive as it does in this case but the spelling can be whatever it wants to be like. If 'jow' has to be 'jaw' to be a word, then also 'Grimm' needs to be adapted because that's also not a word. It could be either 'Grim' or 'Grin', both are fitting.

Check the title page of chapter 199 (Ugly) - kubo tite wrote his name as 'grimmjow'.
So it should be like this and messing with it seems to be a little too much.

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet."
-Romeo and Juliet Act 2 scene ii

Why are you freaking out over a name? There's a couple of ways to spell "John", or "Marry", or "Luis", heck even "Steven". You don't see people complaining about them now do you? People still use Raito(death note) instead of Light even though the authors confirmed it as Light(yes yes, I know, it sounds weird when you say Light since your first language is english etc. etc.), some spell Shun Ukiya (Gate-keepers) as Syun Ukiya, or Lenalee(D.Gray-man) as Linali.
What I'm trying to say is, they're just spellings, even if it pisses you off, you can't make the whole world to follow your preferences. Live with it

Quoting Shakespeare huh.. Nice... The whole "Soul Reaper" thing kind of bugs me too. It just doesn't sound right when I hear it. Luckily I don't watch the English dubbed episodes.

Uhh, it's his name, why does it need to make sense when broken up? It's just a name, like ulquiorra, does orra or qui or ul make sense? Exactly, just a name, it doesn't matter.
But that 'soul reaper' thing annoys me too, exactly why I don't watch american dubs.
Btw, grimmjow is hotttttt.....^_^
