Backstory:

When I was a little kid I scored next to perfect on a standardized state test. Because my grades were so poor, they thought I cheated and I had to retake the test. I scored a few points better and they decided to give me an IQ test. I scored a very high IQ for my age (a child psychologist told my parents not to tell me my IQ on account of it would give me a superiority complex).

So I had to get bussed across the city to a special school for smart kids. I didn't do very well and my intelligence was called into question many times by teachers and other students. 🙁
At the last minute I pulled all my grades up and was allowed to graduate to Jr. High School. I ended up having to go to a special Jr. High for smart kids and again, I did not do very well, and I was threatened with being kicked out of the smart kids program many times.
Again I worked hard and at the very end, I was able to pull my grades up and graduate to high school.

At this point, I decided it would be in my best interest to go to a regular High School and not the smart High School that everyone had planned for me.

I went to a regular high school after that and found that regular high school was very very very easy. I did no work and next to no studying and graduated with a 4.28 GPA. That is above an "A" average (not sure how to convert that into numbers that other country peeps would understand).

So My grades in High School were well above average, but according to my parents I am a failure and a slacker.

Well i have an average of about 16 in a scale from 1 to 20 so i can't say i'm that smart but i didn't pay attention to many classes this year. never done an IQ test but i think i'd be average and also there's something wrong with the people in this forum. leonardo's was about 160 or 180 and einstein's 200 or so, so how come there are so many here saying they have about 150 plus on their IQ exam? Oh well maybe it's just me

I think so too. I was supposed to have a high IQ, but I always did poorly in school (until high school) and felt dumb a lot of the time.

I don't want to know my IQ, for fear that it is low so that I'll think that I'm too stupid, or that it's too high for fear that I'll have a superiority complex. But people tend to estimate it at 130+, which I ignore, because average IQ is only 100. Besides, I'm happier not knowing.

I'm lazy as HECK! But I don't know how I pass all my classes. Not really a C person. I get A's all the time. Even though I don't really do anything in class. w00t! I'm lucky! Strange enough, when I got my first D and F I didn't really freak out.

ah hm... i was valedictorian at my jr. high school... cuz all i did was study study study

hehe but i'm really lax now... doing homework right before and during class...
but i still manage to get a 4.0 gpa cuz my parents would totally nag and anyways... to them a 4.0 isn't enough -_-;;

you know... my parents probably would have been a lot easier on my grades if i never became a valedictorian

3.85 GPA and it was a waste. i only needed a 2.9 to get into the college that i wanted to go to. i should have taken more fun classes vs honors classes. no one looks at high school besides the GPA and whether you graduated or not.

3.9- GPA, it was 3.9something but I don't remember what the something was (hence the hyphen). Doesn't much matter, didn't exactly get me anywhere haha.

None of the options really fit me. I took all honors/advanced placement/whatever they call them these days classes, but I never payed attention in class, hardly ever did my homework, and never bothered to actually read any of my textbooks. Even so I managed to pass all my quizzes, tests, etc. enough to end up in the top 20 students. I ended up getting decent scholarships/financial aid when I graduated, and now I'm doing the whole college thing. Unfortunately my lazy attitude has been a giant hindrance on my studies. I'm doing decent, but when you never had to try during your entire grade school career it makes things difficult to adjust to. Looking back I guess I should have entered the habit of studying/homework in high school to prepare for college, but I can't change that now. Oh well.

My education is a saga, and it starts like this (and lord knows where it ends):

Nobody knows when I learned to read--not even my parents (Who didn't try to teach me, beyond reading me kiddie books). All we know is that I could read already by the time I got into kindergarten. By the end of the fifth grade, I had skipped second grade, was reading at a college level and had completed middle school math and moved on into Geometry (the easiest math course I ever took, both times I had to take it) and very low-level trig.
Then came Junior High: I was a sixth grader, and on my first day found out something incredibly bad: All the advanced work I did in elementary school didn't matter to my junior high. I was placed in normal level math classes, and normal level English classes--and it continued this way throughout Junior High. I was angry, and stifled, and I stopped doing work. Still, I earned straight A's, because homework was negligible in the grade books and my test scores were high.
However, that all changed in High School. In my freshman year (When I finally took Geometry again and the school caught up to me in math), I still managed to subside on test scores for straight A's, and in my sophomore year for B's. By Junior year, tests were made to count for less in my grade, and I pulled only high C's and low B's. Now I'm a Senior. I'm still pwning those tests--2150 on my SAT (not too good, except for the consideration that I did not study or prepare at all). But my grades are even worse.

I'm applying to college, and my academic records look like Black Tuesday. I'm counting on my letters of rec to explain that I will do stuff that interests or challenges me, and that that is why I'm applying to top-tier schools--the challenge hunt.

I hope it works!

So I'm an average human: I pull average grades. And I'm actually proud of that. An IQ means nothing; an SAT score means nothing. All that matters to me is that I learn something. And I learn everything I'm taught, and I then proceed to go out of my way to learn more (Who wants to hear about the Tsar Bomba? The Rumpler Taube?).
