New Poll - Sexism

Sexism doesn't always occur between a girl and a boy. A girl can also be sexist. And sexism can also be directed towards men, not only towards women. There is no evidence that the poll is implying a male perpetrator.
And why should I "lighten up"? I take sexism seriously.
Well, most of the things in the poll specifically mention women as the victim.
Harassment is okay because she's "playing hard to get"
Girl solely exists to be a love interest
Jealous, vain, and/or cruel fangirls
Madonna/whore dichotomy
Damsel in distress
"All women are..."
Patronizing "but you're a girl!" statement
Each one of these can also be used in the context for men. I'll give some examples.
Harassment is okay because he's "playing hard to get"
-rare but it has been done
Boy solely exists to be a love interest
-happens primarily in shoujo/josei, but mostly josei. The reverse happens about as frequently in shounen/seinen.
Jealous, vain, and/or cruel fanboys
-usually portrayed even worse than their female counterparts
player/only thinks with his dick dichotomy
-pretty much the same setup, less common though
"Cutesy" guy in distress
-all the manga where the guy looks a bit girlish and for some reason is completely incapable of doing something without the female lead to carry them through it, surprisingly common
"All men are..."
-things where they're meant to take the lead, they're meant to be the fighters, they're meant to give their lives, etc. A reversal of the other, extremely common and generally accepted as societal norm everywhere.
Patronizing(tempted to change to matronizing but it just sounds wierd) "but you're a boy!" statement
-general"but you're a boy so deal with the pain!", "but you're a boy so you're supposed to lead it!", etc. Usually has to do with putting oneself in harms way.

when the plot supports it. Usually they have the appearance of harems, but only one or two of the guys is actually romantically interested in the heroine.
Oh pls, it's not even funny. Shoujo and all others have exactly the same shit, only with reversed genders and tropes.
Yes in yaoi, because the guys aren't ordinary.
They "aren't ordinary" the same way as every other harem protagonist. 🙄 For yaoi/gay they as ordinary as you can get.
In other words, you being extremely sexist here and don't see a problem with it for yourself, while accusing other of it.

What kind of series someone has read to come up with poll like that. Or how mad has to be to see things like that in regular series...
The only thing from these options I've ever seen is 'damsel in distress'. But t's not even sexists, it's just a trope. 'All women are...' is not even a trope, it's a generalization - common cognitive device which is neither bad or good, that's just how human mind works.
Please, either don't post polls like this any more or add an option to hide them. It's quite disturbing to see something that stupid while checking if there are any new releases. We already have papers like Guardian for that. At least you know what to expect when you open it...

None at all, because there's nothing sexist in an art.

I don't understand how some of you can "not care" about sexism? Why in the world don't you? Don't you think it's important to stop physical and emotional harassment against (roughly) half of the people existing on earth just because they were born with female genitals? Don't you care whethe ...
Being a female myself, and one who typically identifies as 'not caring' about sexism, saying that doesn't actually mean I really don't care or think it's okay. I don't and I think it's wrong. But you know, everyone draws their lines somewhere and when the context given to me is 'a damsel in distress' or 'but you're a girl!', you know, I don't give a rats ass. The kind of violence and oppression of women that does bother me I don't typically find in manga.
The stuff that IS worth bothering about in manga happens to males and females so I can't consider it sexism. Have you seen the kind of objectification and pedophelia that fujoshi put on the internet? Have you read the topic titles in the yaoi section of this forum?? How can you call it sexism if it goes both ways?
I don't know exactly how you define sexism but to me:
Sexual Harassment is a Crime
Sexual Assault is a Crime
Rape is a Crime
Sexism is a view that one gender is superior to the other and can motivate a crime.
Just like hate crimes have to be motivated by hate.
TLDR: while there are subjects in manga that bother me, for the most part, I don't believe that those are fundamentally motivated by the view that females are somehow inferior to males, and my reasoning for believing that is because I see the same things or equivalent things happening to males.

My least favorite is the scenario where a girl tries to thank a guy for helping her by offering to have sex with him. It happens all the time in manga. I've never heard of a real girl considering sex to be a thank-you gift.
Also, since you guys like talking about "the other way around," I've never seen a scenario where a guy offers sex to a girl as a thank-you. If you can share an example with me, please do.
I think I've only seen it between guys in yaoi maybe twice. And I've read a LOT of yaoi.

She's a succubus who feed on semen. 🤨

I'm sure there's enough yaoi with that scenario. Probably some hentai too. And some ecchi comedy here and there with usual result like "got hit in face and send flying".
And I've read a LOT of yaoi.
For someone who read a lot of yaoi, you sure know some unusual scenarios for hentai.
@regularsharp
Childhood friends doesn't count the same way as usually doesn't count family members. You don't see them as opposite sex the same way as you see others.
And in this case you probably think about "childhood friend" like "friends in childhood, then got separated/drifted apart/etc." Being friends as children doesn't count as experience with the opposite sex.

I was only being half serious, (should have added 😃 😉 ) but here's the thing - it can never be the reverse. There is an inherent difference, a difference of power in the relationship. And watch your language, young man. 🤣

I have not accused any person here of being sexist.

I think for some people they'd rather not think about such serious/depressing topics so they choose to ignore them.
For others, they don't encounter sexism on a regular basis so they don't have to think about it that often.
And there's also that other group of people. The group that thinks sexism doesn't actually exist. That there's nothing wrong with the majority of things that are listed on this poll and that people these days are just oversensitive. They think that any discussion on sexism is "anti-male" because women are usually depicted as the victim and males as the perpetrators.

Bleh... The option that I would have added would have been the stupid as hell Shounen male characters (particularly main)....
Why do I have the feeling that it's a shoujo fan / girl who came up with this month's poll?

Wow I really regret reading the comments here. So many people crying WHAT ABOUT THE MENZ.
I don't believe in sexism against cis men and I'm pretty sure those guys think there's such a thing as racism against whites. Cis men are very, very privileged and a silly trope like a dumb shounen protagonist is very far from all the patronizing and objectifying tropes for female characters.
Real world issues are much more serious and worth of concern, but media reflects and shapes our culture. That's why there's so much sexism in manga or any type of comics.
Though, we have to remember that if you aren't a japanese person living in japan you're seeing everything through a different cultural context. So don't pretend you know how japan works and don't use that to say something like ''but it must be okay there''.

You probably have the most posts in this entire thread, you obviously do care. Something is eating you up inside, just read your first few posts in this thread where you were already hurling insults. Take a look at all your posts throughout this thread. You are so angry it's honestly hilarious. 🤣
If you're so threatened by a poll in a manga site, how do you deal with real problems in life? 😢

Oh Lamb...why did you fall for the SJW trap?
The whole poll reads like it was asked by Feminazi extraordinaire Anita Sarkeesian - or at least by one of her brainwashed momes.Great job on singling out your own gender.
You and this guy should hit it off. 🤣
