Well for me it isnt really proper to compare the 2 titles: i mean, one is a seinen, the other is obviously shounen-ish. The similarities are restricted to "manga with big swords swordsmasters", not much more.

Anyway, I love them both but if you ask me, its Berserk my favorite one. I only hope the mangaka wont die on us before finishing it (like Doraemon's author, lol) cause i'd go insane.

I got tired of claymore early on
and the anime was rather bad
berserk win in most categories i think
better lead
better badguys
better characters overall
better action
better story
better art
better anime adaptation lol

I love Berserk, but there's no question that I prefer Claymore.

I just think it's a more unusual and interesting manga... 'Cause it's very rare to have women protagonists like that in seinen/shounen - strong, non-ecchi, not just romantic interests for the main guy but hardcore soldiers in their own right.

So yaaah.... CLAYMORE ALL THE WAY!

(But Griffith is SO HAWT lol, his hotness alone wins me over anytime I see his face.)

For various reasons, I could not get into Berserk(partly cos of how lengthy it was, among other reasons). Claymore is pretty good to read but I wouldn't be surprised if either series was just as good as each other.

When it comes to the likeability factor Claymore declares it. The fact that the main is a female who has more personality than anatomy makes it worth reading. Don't get me wrong, Berserk is cool, but it is not something I'd read to enjoy or get into for the sake of curiosity reasons; to me berserk represents the common clichรฉ that has being flooding alot of mangas lately a bulky kick-ass looking character with zero personality and sharp objects at his disposal. A factor I try to avoid.

I like the berserk of beginning(first 180 chapters or so) more than i do claymore. actually i used to think that berserk was the best manga ever till ex-priest,her brother and snot-nosed kids joined in. after that point the actions became dull and repetetive. not only that; at that point imho author managed to ruin the dark mood which finely suits main character. when i read it now; its as if i read a shounen manga. wtf is with this forced comedy and sidekick comments?
i get a much darker feeling from claymore which is published on a shounen magazine. even if the action isnt as good as berserk, plot is.

both are good but claymore is just a little better.

Bump 13 years ago thread. Claymore got an ending. Berserk doesn't. Thank God I'm a Claymore fan. Must be suck being a Berserk fan now. Got reminded of this thread after hearing Miura death. As much as I hate Berserk and think it's a shitty manga, RIP Miura.

Claymore wins, because it has something Berserk doesn't have: AN ENDING! ๐Ÿ˜€
Even if I didn't like it too much, to be honest. Unfortunately I started to dislike Berserk the exact moment Shielke appeared, so...

I totally agree the introduction of magic/Shielke in Berserk was fatal since Miura wasn't able to blend it into the mix (I didn't really dislike Shielke as a character). Maybe not giving Isidro any serious scenes added with Serpico's bland personality made the main cast a downgrade of the band of the hawk.

I mean look at Pipin, he was part of the cast probably had a relevant position ,but wasn't forced into the main story or into a stereotype (like the knight of the crossing) . Even when it was only Guts and Puck, he wasn't just comic relief, Puck also showed us his despair , internal conflict and initiative to solve the problems independently from Guts. All of this is nonexistent in the last arks almost all the problem solving was left to Shielke and Guts whilst the rest of the cast attend Casca (it's not just that but their relevance is minimal) and the skull knight's mysteriousness disappears whilst leaving cryptic frases that cut more ends lose.

On the oposite side Claymore managed the wrap everything up ,whilst leaving stuff to our imagination. The enormous cast of at times indistinguishable silver eyed witches, each had individuality. Even though more Isley would've been nice, he was cut out just as most lose ends, the ones left were either hinted or left to our imagination.

I know I'm late for the party here but, uh, what about comparing Berserk to Blade of the Immortal?

Honestly, I think the latter actually excels in most fronts, even though I'm sure Berserk was an influence.
