It reminds me of 80's glam metal, a la Poison and Whitesnake. Are there people who like this stuff for the actual music and not the image? Seems to me like a gimick.

I thought it came from 80s glam? Or atleast influenced by it...

They'd be the same band and same sound without the VK.

And I guess frankly speaking the only thing that makes them VK is dressing androgynously.

Anyway...I like to randomly show photos of visal kei bands to a friend who's kinda scared of them. (Not that you needed to know but...) 🤣

I honestly have not heard any Visual Kei bands, but I have heard 80's glam rock/metal, and 90% of it was manufactured as a sole means to make money after Motley Crue, Cheap Trick, and Quiet Riot made it popular (as well as NWOBHM bands). I don't like music that is more concerned with an image than substance.

uuhh.....I know Glam Rock, but what's visual kei. You guys say they're similar, so is it where the members look like dilapidated DBZ characters?

There's this one song by a j-band called Glay that my ex used to play a lot, which I kinda like. I dunno if it's visual kei, but it sounds alright.

I don't listen to much Jap music though, except for electronic/progressive/trance and Nujabes, Shing02 and Yukihiro Fukutomi.

Thats the jist of Visual Kei.

I hate their music. The vocalist always have this like slight lisp/change to their voice. Also what guy wants to watch other guys dress up like women.

I like most visual kei bands, especially bands like Versailles and an cafe. Anyway visual kei is just a style. Basically it's like, dudes who dress up as girls is gothic lolita clothing, and wear make-up. And since they're asian they can really pull it off. 🤣

Sorry to burst your bubble, little child, but I do if it's done well...

There are some bands that I like and have a Visual Kei style... Mostly though when I look over the japanese bands I like, many of them used to have a much more visual style than they do today. So it's not a solid thing you can just label a band with and throw it away, things change with time and I've been hearing since years back that Visual Kei has been dying or even died already... But I don't really know since I don't keep up with anything other than cd releases from the bands, yeah they're pleasant to look at but idolizing has never been my thing.
