Great music is genreless, whether mainstream or indie, anybody can pick it up and drift away from reality. I'm calling out the real music lovers who sees music not as a genre but as a universal artform. what are your favorite albums?
it takes a true genius to make an album that influences, teaches, and overall satisfies the listener from intro to outro and has them craving for more.
PS:realize i said "album" not "songs", any idiot can make a catchy and simple beat,
ex: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=vum3qgoh0x4.

I disagree entirely, a genre is just a means for classification. Music in general can fall into multiple genres because an artist might enjoy many different forms of music and have very diverse influences. People enjoy music for different reasons, its a matter of culture and personal taste. Notice your parents and grandparents often enjoy entirely different music than you do, that is because our social structure is different. The beatles are in my opinion one of the greatest bands of all time, but I have many friends who don't like them at all. Maybe its because its not what they are used to or maybe they just have trouble relating to the music, or possibly just personal taste, I don't know.
Also, why do you feel any idiot can make a catchy beat? If its that easy to write a catchy song we'd all have a hit song. There is an art to writing music in a way that is pleasing to the senses and causes the listener to replay it over and over again.
Anyways, on topic...
My favorite album is Nevermind by Nirvana.

first, i'd like to say that the beatles are arguably the greatest musicians in modern history.
ahem, lets continue music's been around for ages; now with that in mind, hasnt all music evolved from the same source? the dominant music genre of this age is hip hop, but hip hop evolved from rock, jazz, and disco. disco was inspired by rock and jazz, rock was inspired by country, jazz, and blues. before jazz, were old european hymns, anthems, and classical. they all inspired each other, good music inspires good music.
Great music is genreless. i love good music. beethoven is good music, bb king, james brown, rakim, and the beatles are all good music. they express themselves with their words and instruments that are not bound to the status quo and limiting standards of any genre. music is art; u dont look at a famous painting and think of what category the masses put it in, u admire the genuity it took to craft it.
i have no idea why ur friends do not enjoy the beatles. u no what if they just some rap idiots then i got reccomendation for u to show them.
Jay-z vs the beatles the grey album.
my friend, turn on the radio nowadays, have u noticed that everybody and their grandma has a hit song? if u reply with "i dont listen to the radio" then u dont go with the masses. u said ur a beatles fan, dats old school rock and roll, look at present day music and u'd understand. the definition of popular music is simple and catchy. ie: soulja boy, he used fruity loops to make dat song, and it probally took him 5 minutes to write the lyrics. how's that for easy. hit song or not would u buy the album? one hit wonders.
if we don't look pass genre standards and explore, then how is music going to evolve?

Angels and Airwaves 2nd album I-Empire fits the decription for me. I especally love the song Sirens.
Eww man, that's Tom DeLonge after he suxed. He was a terrible singer (even tho blink-182 was still great) now he's a terrible singer for a sucky band as well.
Lets see:
Billie Jean (@ dacbiet: sorry it's just wayyy better than Thriller)
Kashmir- Led Zepplin
Bohemian Rhapsody- Queen
Basket Case- Green Day
Lose Yourself- Eminem
