Most Theatrical Death Scene

Aside from manga, I read comics, too, and I have to say that there are some seriously theatrical/melodramatic death scenes in there, for example the killing of Robin (Jason Todd) by the Joker. whimper Just re-read that recently, and... Yeah. I cried. And I'm not ashamed to admit it. (Okay, maybe I am. Just a little bit. 😛 )
What's the most theatrical, gory, memorable or melodramatic death scene FOR A MAJOR CHARACTER that you've seen in an anime or manga?
Please post character names in spoiler-quotes! But of course, manga titles can be offered openly.
Let's see how theatrically we can kill our characters in manga-land! I challenge anyone to find a death more horrifying/heartrending than Jason Todd's. (Okay, so that was a blatantly obvious dare, but you get the idea. 🤨 )

Uh, and how exactly did Joker kill Robin? I'm very curious 🙂
The first title that came to my mind is Gantz. Characters die in very weird ways there (some of them even more than once).
For example, the scene in the very beginning, when Kurono and that other guy are hit by train. That was very... detailed. Or when Kurono died again, in the end of Phase 2. I hoped he won't die until the end :(
I thought I would be able to find more examples, but all that come to my mind are from books 🙂 Maybe I'll add something later 🙂
Later:
Code Geass R2 (anime)
This may be obvious, but I really loved the scene in the end, when Lelouch dies :) There was not much blood, no gore or things like that, but it made a huge impression on me. And it was very theatrical, like almost everything that Lelouch did :)

Kemono no Souja Erin
John's death made me really sad. :(
Even more so the melodramatic scene of goodbye, when he left Erin in this school for beast doctors after taking care of her for 4 years.
-> I had to think really hard to find this one 😐
Also, I'd like to add this. 😛

I would give an oscar for most dramatic/theatrical death to akuma no ororon
I mean Ororon the main character fills up almost 3 volumes with his death.
there are so many people that want to kill him and he struggels for what seems like an eternity to survive. And in the end he still has to die
at the end I really cried. I so hoped for a happy ending 😢

no i think DBZ would have some of the most dramatic.
Like when cell was going to explode and goku teleported hm and blew up
or Vegeta when he was majin vegeta and he released all that energy to kill Buu and killed himself

Lelocuh doesn't die, he gains immortality
There is this one death scene I remember because it was just that funny. On my trip around India, I was on the indian airlines plane and they were showing this indian movie. There were subtitles so I could understand what the heck was going. Anyways to make this short. Girl and boy are in love, Evil Uncle of girl doesn't want them to be together. Boy's best friend finds out evil uncle was the one who separated them. He gets shot by evil uncle who then promptly leaves. This dude who got shot in the chest basically was able to walk a couple of miles to his mates house, go upto him while clutching his hands was able to tell evil uncles planz with this cheesy as sad song playing in the background and then only after he does this does he die and the other dude just to make it worse sayz noooooooooooo with the music getting louder and louder. The entire time I was just basically like wtf 😲 oh shitt
just noticed anime/manga
Hmm probably would have to be DBZ
Every time Goku dies, because you know hez gonna come back!!

Well, he gets stabbed and falls unconscious... and there's nothing more about him. It's death, or at least it's close enough to fit this topic :) I don't know anything about fancy theories about how Code Geass ended.

This has kind of been done before:

In case they're different enough for the mods:
Kamina Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
Heavily wounded, he still has enough strength to beat some sense in Simon and iirc, perform the Giga Drill Breaker. And honestly, who wasn't crying manly tears when you find out about his death? I can still remember the the sound of the rain after the conclusion of that battle.
EDIT: bah, BossKado beat me to it.
