now just want to make sure this thread has not a drop of racism in it, yet just a douse of curiosity...

i see alot of dark chicks in animes and mangas nowadays, especially like bleach....
are they suppose to be black or hispanic? or are they just japanese yet really really tanned? just curious...

cause when i look at yoruichi and that new espeda from bleach, i really wonder... ive seen anime chicks impossible to be japanese, but these girls seem just physically impossible to be anything but hispanic or black...

Who cares? They have dark/tanned skin, thats it.
There is no need to know their race.

As far as we know, they could be a really really really tanned white/Japanese etc.

Anime women are just that - Anime women.

If the manga is set in a different world or a different time, who knows what the races and cultures are... and for modern manga, I'd say they're probably just foreign. ^^

The thing that bothers me sometimes is when a mangaka tries to make a foreign character by drawing the exact same face as the japanese ones, just with the skin darker. It looks fake and a little weird... :/

Anyway my favorite non-japanese is Maria-chan from Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei:

It doesn't really matter, it's a creation from someone's imagination. If the story holds my interest, they could be amoebae for all I care.

Did you know some Japanese girls liked to tan their skin very dark? It was a trend a few years ago.

It's not difficult to tan their skin if one likes dark skin. It's much easier than becoming much lighter than the skintone you were born with.

I thought I was the only one that hated that...

But my guess is that the mangaka are trying to diversify their characters, like how some characters have hair and eye colors that aren't possible through genetics.

And I always thought that Yoruichi was supposed to be Indian or Southeast Asian as well. But we might never find that out at all.
