Do you get to talk about anime/manga?

...I've actually encountered a startling number of people who not only watch anime/read manga, but oddly enjoy talking about it. To me. Even if I hardly know them. Throughout high school, the topics mostly revolved around yaoi, shoujo romances (Fruits Basket), and a few mainstream actiony shounen stories (D. Gray-Man). Can you tell they were mostly girls?
And now that I've started college, I only find guys who read/watch Bleach. So I do more listening than I do discussing, because I don't really like any of the stuff that's super popular here. I'd love to find someone I could talk to about Usagi Drop or Madoka...

Well where I live there is only one other friend of mine who likes manga and anime but not as much as I do and we like different types of manga also so I have practically no one to talk with.

I have lots of friends that watch anime or reads manga. Still remember when i was in 7 grade , was rly into one piece (still am ) and wanted to recommend that anime to my best friend , but i wasnt sure how he would react , would he laugh at me and tease me that i was into childish cartoon?? Anyway i told him about it , and i found out that he alrdy watched one piece and was as crazy as me about it. We still laugh about it today .
Just a few weeks ago i was at this party where i only knew 2 ppl. i hear in a corner of the room through all the music three random guys talking about the latest naruto chapter. I go over and introduce myself and we start talking about all kinds of manga, after a while the grp of four ppl became like 10. Even some of the chiks got interested ^^

no, the irony is, I study japanese. I have a friend that knows about it, but we aren't that much of friends for talking about manga. and one another friend (both are girls) that always talks about yaoi, the ongoing popular ones. let's say, I tend to avoid this subject.
I wanted to force my twinsister and a friend to read some, but my sis don't want to talk about it (thinks it's childish), and the friend is a procrastinator. I gave her Solanin, a two volume manga, a year ago and she didn't even began so I gave up.
if there is an option between "to do" and "not to do", I will always choose the latter.

Once the novelty wears off, one of two things happen. You either stop reading altogether or you become more selective and critical of what you read. In any case, apart from facebook and the internet, I've got one friend with a passing interest in anime. Stuff like Trigun, Bebop, Afro Samurai, etc. but not much else. from time to time he'll ask if there's anything good. That's about it.

I feel a bit alone too. The only time I got to talk about manga to people irl was when I took a japanese class last year.
But, well, I guess that's what online friends are for... 🙂
No, I don't. I accept the fact that I like something different from the rest of majority and I don't care if I don't have friends to talk about manga.
Sometimes, I met friends who read "Naruto" and "Bleach", but there's no way discussing about plot depth, storyline, characters making, or talking any other series with them.
I had a friend, pretty close friend, years ago and we had quiet similar taste. But we ended up hurting each other coz i couldn't accept that she lied to me.

Yup. Quite a few people in my school have read manga at least one point in their life. Even though most of them only read/watch the popular kinds, a few of my friends have similar tastes as me in manga. I can actually discuss something like Oyasumi Punpun with 3 of them. Too bad yaoi is too awkward for them... so all of those homoerotic boys are left to me. 😉

I have one friend who reads some manga, though he's mostly interested in anime and light novels. beside that one friend there's practically no one who's really interested in manga or anything related, which is fine by me except for the dumb comments I get about all the well known manga.

Not at all. The closest thing at my school is the Anime Society, and even there it's filled with yaoi fangirls who have not heard of online scanlations and only resort to insubstantial bookstore resources. There is absolutely no common ground between me and those people for manga discussion.

I have a few friends that have watched or read one or two titles but there is no one that reads or watches it as much as I do that I can really go into an indepth conversation with. I try to get some of my friends to watch some of the mainstream ones to get them interested but not many have taken to it like me. So in other words I am forced to be a closet otaku and keep my vast knowledge and interest to myself when it comes to some of my friends.

Im feeling you man.I understand how you feel. I dont get to talk about manga and anime as much as I'd like to.Sure there are some people that have an interest in certain mangas, animes, but their like(how much they like anime/manga) cant be compared to how much I like manga/anime.Yeah I can talk about my obsession with my cousins and stuff but they just dont understand and cant relate. As an otaku I'd find it comforting to have someone I can blurb to.

An anime club also exists, not that I go there.
